A neighbor child colored with red marker on my new wooden kitchen table. I need some suggestions on how to get it off with out discoloring or damaging the wood. It is a dark wood table.
You could also try the Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser. I just used it on my wood table that had ink from a plastic bag and it took it right off.
I have heard that you might try dark shoe polish and rub it in very good, then probably have to reapply. Also, a dark brown permanent marker might be worth a try.
I'd try Murphy's oil soap. They used to advertise it as being used in America's historic churches, so I tried it for some wood furniture I had, it's great! It helps scratches look better and cleans wood, I've had some pretty rough looking pieces that look great after using the Murphys. I don't know if it will work on marker, but I do know it won't hurt your wood and I've had it clean some unknown things from my wood furniture, I'm sure you won't regret buying it because you'll be able to use it on your table later.

Mr Clean Magic Eraser should work. It took sharpy off of my table. But because your table is dark I would try it on an inconspicuous place first. It could dull the finish
Crazy, but we always used hairspray growing up. Just spray it on (enough to where it is wet and you can see a small puddle of hairspray) and wipe off the marker.
I would not reccommend using hairspray or fingernail polish remover. I tried both of those on my new wood table that my daughter got marker on and they both took the finish off. Good luck and let us know if you find something that works well!
A little warm, soapy water and MR. Clean Magic Eraser. Those things remove anything.

I've successfully used Mr Clean eraser for similar projects. It works great. In the future don't let kids play with markers that are not crayola. They will wash off.
At Dollar General there is a product called "L.A's Totally Awesome" it's a degreaser. It should take the marker right off, just make sure you read the dilution ratio the stronger it is, it might damage the table. I fyou don't want to deal with diluting the solution then try "Mr.Clean Magic Eraser". Good Luck!
My son took a black permanant marker to our new bedroom set a couple of years back. I took a cottonball with a little bit of rubbing alcohol on it and it wiped right off, thank goodness! It was such a small amount that it didn't damage our finish at all, but I would always check in an inconspicuous place first. Good luck!
Pam cooking spray took black permanent marker out of our wood entertainment center without damaging the finish. Be careful with the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser if anyone suggests that--we tried it on our mantle and it took some of the finish off of it. Good luck! The Pam works!
Mr. Clean's Magic Eraser!! I have a wooden table too and my children are not always cautious! It doesn't even take a whole lot of elbow grease either!! Have a good one!

Hand sanitizer (i.e. GermX,) gets permanent marker out/off of almost anything. I have used it with clothes, on a photo album cover, on a basketball, etc.
