My husband and I need two new mattresses, one for my 5 year old daughter and one for us. Since we've never bought them, does anyone have any experience to share? There are so many types between the regular ones, Tempurpedic and the Sleep numbers. We're overwhelmed! Thanks in advance!!

What can I do next?

J.,

I have purchased several twin, full, and queen size mattresses and box springs from the Original Mattress Factory over the years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Once you start shopping around, you realize the junk that some places are peddling and how overpriced others are.

The junky box springs have no springs! They soon squeak, too. The mattresses at Mack Mattress Outlet are inferior. Beware!

At Original Mattress Factory, I always get the midrange or just under-never the bottom or second to the bottom, altho they are just fine for light weight people.

Here's a tip that most people don't know, if you order the extra edge supports (free), the sides of the mattress hold up better when you sit on the edge of the bed and it doesn't squash down as much. I highly recommend them! You can also get a low profile box springs which is only half the height as a regular box if you want a little bit lower bed.

Good luck! You won't be sorry if you go to Original and you will get the best value-quality and price! (I sound like a commercial, but I am am not related nor do I work there! lol)

I thoroughly investigated Tempurpedic and Sleep Number beds, but got advice from people at Mamasource that steered me away. Besides being a very expensive foam mattress, it is hot! And the sleep number bed is just an overpriced air mattress! Also, I heard that they were hard to assemble and something bad about frames.

We bought a sleep number last year and did fork over the money for the king size. I love it. When my hubby gets up early or tosses and turns, I never know it. I love the fact that I can change my number depending on my needs. Sometimes I am aching from overwork and I use a lower number. Sometimes I know that I need a little more support and add a few numbers. When my parents come to visit we let them sleep in our bed rather than climb the stairs. They love our bed and love to adjust the numbers for them. We bought the sleep number bed because our chiropractor said it is one of the best beds he has tested and he bought one for himself. I really like that it isn't heavy. You can make the bed easily and it is easy to move if you want to switch your room around. There are even directions for if you move to another house.

We bought a good quality twin mattress set for our daughter when she was 5 and now she is 10. She didn't want a full size bed because she wanted more play space in her room. We didn't pay the most money for it and know that in the future we will probably go to a bigger bed. Girls change their minds! Our oldest daughter started out in a twin bed and went to a full size then back to a twin and is now in a queen. We just keep the extra mattress and frame in the corner of the basement. It is great to have the extra mattress for when company comes. Have fun and find something you will enjoy.

Most mattresses outgas toxic chemicals--it is worth it to invest in organic--with all my chemical sensitivies I am very happy with our investment. We have a latex mattress with a wool topper sitting on a slat frame(like futons are on)--no box springs. The latex is completely enclosed with heavy cotton so no problem for those with latex allergies. Latex and wool are dust mite resistant and do not outgas. Latex and fluffy wool conform to your body like temperpedic but do not wear down or outgas like it does. Latex without springs is so much better for people of different sizes--my husband is 210 pounds and I am 138--when we are in a regular bed I roll towards him and can't sleep also there is no sqeaking (and as a side note because it is not "bouncy" much better for sex!)Do a search online for organic mattresses--there are many places and styles to look at. We bought ours from a company called Soaring Heart Futons--but that was many years ago and now there are more local places.

My husband and I share a queen size waterbed. Although they may be pricier, they are cleaner. No dustmites to worry about. And the heat feels good on your back. Very easy to move, also. Just drain and disassemble. No lugging heavy matress around. As for the kiddo, I'm not real sure, I'm not there yet, my baby's 5 monts old.

We had great luck with Original Mattress Factory for hubby and I. However, for my son, we went to Levin. They offered the Guardian protection and when my son had a virus and vomitted on the mattress they replaced it for FREE.
