Memory Foam Mattress Advice?

We're more than ready to change from a queen size to a king size bed and want to get a memory foam. Tempurpedic is just out of our price range, but Costco has one called Nova Foam that seems rated well and is significantly less. We've bought furniture, electronics, many things from Costco and never been dissatisfied, but I am curious if anyone has one or experience with one?

Also, there's lot of other brands out there that are discounted like on Overstock.com, etc. Anyone have good or bad experiences with those?

We currently have a Serta pillowtop with a memory foam topper on it and both are on their last legs!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Maybe I asked the wrong question, I feel like I'm in the dark on this issue. We have a memory foam topper and have really liked it. DH has horrible allergies and we both have asthma. We get more green everyday and yet I had no idea about some of the stuff people have mentioned. That said, I'm reading about natural latex and other options, but yet again..COST! I realize that health has to be a factor, but seriously, when you figure $3000 for a mattress, plus the cost of a new frame, headboard and foot board, that's a lot to dish out at once and we don't buy things on credit.....anyone have less expensive recommends?

We've had the Nova Foam from Costco for about 6 months, and bought it upon the recommendation of a friend who had had his for about a year. LOVE IT. If you read up on it, it's the same technology that TempurPedic has. Suffice it to say that when we got rid of our old pillow-top mattress, I was practically crippled. My neck and back hurt all the time. Now, after 6 months on a memory foam mattress, my back and neck feel great! (I also bought a Nova Foam pillow at Costco - love that, too!)

The only thing to be aware of is that when you first take it out of the box, it will smell funny. However, the smell dissipates within a few days.

Also, one thing I had read in some of the older reviews was that memory foam mattresses make you hotter, but my husband is one of those people who always feels hot, and he has not noticed any difference in between the memory foam and the old pillow top in terms of sleeping temperature. I know this is something memory foam manufacturers have been working on, and apparently they've made improvements in the past few years.

For the money, you can't beat the Nova Foam mattress, in my opinion.

ETA: My daughters both have memory foam mattresses from IKEA, and those have worked out pretty well also. The only thing is, they are both young and so they don't weigh much - therefore I'm not sure how the mattresses hold up under normal adult weight over time. Guests we've had stay over have said the mattresses are comfortable though. So, IKEA may be another option to check out.

The people that like them REALLY like them but I would never get a memory foam mattress.
I've known too many people who got them and hated them because of the heat they hold in.
Next time I go mattress shopping I'll be looking for a talalay or dunlop latex foam mattress.
Additional:
Most typical mattresses are good for 15 years.
A latex foam mattress can last for 30 years.
I think it's important to factor the cost over the life of the product.
Shop around and you can find some deals.

Consider getting a natural latex topper instead. They last forever, are an amazing combination of supportive and yielding, and don't give all that toxic smell at the beginning. I personally hate memory foam toppers. I bottom out and the firm mattress still feels hard against shoulders and hips, and once the foam has molded to my sleep position, it creates a depression that takes extra effort (as in waking up) to get out of. No such problems with natural latex. They are more expensive, but will last for a long, long time.

Here's one source of many: http://www.lifekind.com/index.php/site_category_product_r.... I've bought from this company and have been happy with their customer service and products. Their pillow-top mattress topper is on sale right now: http://www.lifekind.com/index.php/site_category_product/8...

King size is usually about $1500, now 25% off.

Memory foam is a buzz word for mattress sales these days. Memory foam does little for comfort, it squashes down to almost nothing and springs back to it's orginal shape. Hence, the name 'memory foam'. It's also HOT. If you are headed toward menapause with the hot flashes and night sweats, you will be extra hot with a memory foam mattress.

I have a savvy rest mattress and we got one for our daughter. Love them. Yes they are pricey but we felt it was worth it. I have migraine and chronic pain so I did not want to chose something that offgasses and sinks in. My husband built a platform frame for $50 and currently we have no headboard. I would recommend trying out the mattress though. We almost ordered a different brand and I'm so glad we went to a local store and spent almost 4 hours trying and customizing our savvy rest mattress. The king is split in half so my side has 3 softer layers and husband's side has 3 that are more firm. Good luck!

We have 2 memory foam toppers in our home. Hate the smell for the 1st couple of weeks, triggered my allergies, then was o.k. from that point on.

This might be an option for you....to try for your queen before investing in a king. ?hope this helps!

EDIT: boy, how did I miss your last sentence! Good grief! Sorry!
