Just started taking Metformin. I notice that when I drive I feel kind of dizzy...it is lessened at home. But, I am aware of being more dizzy. Does anyone in the medical field know anything about this?

What can I do next?

Of course people in the medical field know something about this...it would be a good idea for you to call the doctor who prescribed the metformin and ask them. It's not a good idea to ask for medical advice on the internet.

ETA: And please stop driving until you get this resolved1

Why were you prescribed metformin? Since its a medication used to help control blood sugar levels. You're probably taking the wrong dosage.

Why haven't you called your doctor?

Dizziness is a known side effect of Metformin, you should not drive when experiencing this. Talk to your doctor. A pharmacist can verify this, but only your doctor can adjust or change your medication.

Call your Dr. for goodness sake! It's a common side effect. You may need to lower the dosage.

Metformin can take a lil time to get used to. I suggest you go to the American Diabetes Website and post on the forums there. The people there are VERY helpful and I have found sometimes they have better advise (because they are on the same meds and/or actually going through the same thing) than the doctors. I have not really had that same reaction from the metformin but, do have it if my sugar is too high or to low. If it's only Metformin that your taking though than I think it's pretty rare to get lows. Also, remember to take it with food.
