Minivan with Automatic Sliding Door Not Closing Properly.

We have a 2005 Ford Freestar with automatic sliding doors. The driver side slider has been acting up and will not close all of the way. It will try to close and then opens back up again. The only way that I know it is fully closed is when it makes a loud noise. I have also tried to manually close it and you can’t manually close it with the automatic feature.
I would just like to be prepared when I take it to the mechanic. It would be nice to know around about how much the repair will be.
My husband works alot so I will probably be the one taking it to the mechanic. Also, if there is anyone in the area that recommends someone that would be great. I would like to avoid going to a Ford dealership because I know they will charge way too much.

What can I do next?

try cleaning out the track top and bottom, and cleaning off the sensors in the door and the frame.
I have the same van a year earlier , the 2004 version.

I have a Kia and have had to have the entire mecanism replaced because of an issue like this. I don't believe it is the manufacturer but an inate problem with the power sliding doors. As a matter of fact, one side has been replaced three times and the other side has been once or twice. I quit counting because it was all covered by my warranty. Got to love the warranty...

I have a Dodge van. I have had that happen to one of my doors. They do allow for manual shutting, though. Took it once and they oiled things and checked the wiring. It wasn't too much but it didn't fix the problem. They ended up replacing the entire door mechanism. I have an extended warranty so it only cost me $100. But it really cost $700. It STILL has problems occasionally.

It cost a lot, the 700 below is probably correct. It was 500 12 years ago when I had it done.

If cleaning the tracks doesn't work, you'll need to have the roller mechanism replaced. Both my doors on my Odyssey had to have the rollers replaced at different times because of this. They just wore out. But don't wait too long. I made that mistake on my second door and we continued to use it with problems. It then started scratching the side of the van trim because it would jolt and jar when it was opening. The roller replacements were about $350 for each door at a dealership. Independent places should be able to do it a little cheaper.

clean the tracks and underneath parts where the mechanism goes first by hand, then by vacuum then by soapy wash cloth. Bet that fixes it. A straw caused that to happen in our mini van
