I am going to be leaving town in a few weeks and I am thinking about leaving my kids home during the day with my neighbor's almost 16 y/o daughter. I am very confident in leaving my children with her, she has babysat for us before and has done a wonderful job. She is a very responsible and trustworthy young woman and if there is a problem, my husband will only be 2 miles from home. My question is, how much do I offer to pay her if she does decide to take this on? It would be a total of 33 hours. I have no idea where to even start.

What can I do next?

I would pay her anywhere from $250-300 My reasoning for this is that the more you pay her, the more committed she will be do doing this for you.

As a teenager I did a ton of babysitting, I was even a nanny for one family. However, I usually would cancel the families that paid me less, to take on a family that would pay me more. Just the truth of the matter.

Paying her around $8 an hour seems reasonable and is above the min. wage.

Depending on the age of the children and how many it should be between $100 and $200

I would pay her the minimun wage in your state x 33 hrs. In AZ that would come to about $240.

Hi T.,
What is the normal hourly rate you pay her? Multiply that, and maybe add some extra as a "tip" after you get home and the kids are still in one piece (LOL!)

Not sure if this helps - but the "going rate" for in-home daycare (up to 10 hours) is about $30/day per kid (discounts are usually given for the second kid) so you can kind of base it on that. Not sure how you are coming up with the 33 hours - is is like eight hours a day for four days? If so, I would say offer her $175-200?
