Is there anyway I can do my own divorce without getting an attorney involved? I want to divorce my husband but do not want to pay anyone ( attorney) since I know we both will not contest anything other then child support.

What can I do next?

You can use a mediator at the courthouse. Just call & ask them the names & how to get an apptmt. The main operator should be able to direct you to the right channels. Or u can find a mediator in the yellow pages, but the ones at courthouse are usually cheaper.

I know attorneys can be expensive, but child support can be sticky. You might look into an attorney. I know of a wonderful family law attorney and she can work with you on payments.

Hi N.,

I did my own divorce back in 2004. You have to go the courthouse and get the paperwork. If you have low income you will be able to file indigent (paperwork needs to be filled out for that, and then approved...you will need a recent pay check stub) and you won't have to pay one red cent. I filed my divorce and got approved as indigent. I didn't have to pay any filing fees or anything. I only had to pay the person to serve him the papers which was only $20.

I got a divorce and did it without an attorney. Depending on what state you live in. You can get all your documents online and file them with the county you live in. If you need help let me know and I will help you find all the documents you need.

Unfortunately, Legal Aid only helps those women who are in an abusive relationship, or if they or their children are in danger. You could spend money on the Florida law divorce information book (which can be found at Barnes & Nobles book store or the library), but if you look into the state of Florida websites, it's possible to find forms to do it yourself. However, if he balks at any of the child support issues, it is likely you will need a lawyer anyway. There are tons of divorce lawyers locally. Some will charge as high as $7500. It takes a lot of footwork to find one who is reasonable. Some may tell you they can get your spouse to pay for the divorce, as well. Be careful, because if your soon-to-be-ex can't or won't do that, then it's just another incurred expense.

There are some churches that have divorce counselors. If you live in the Orlando area, I know of one in particular that I would recommend. E-mail me, if you would like more info.

May God bless you and be with you.
