You could try the wipes. A few different brands have them now. I think Off is one of them. Wipe it onto their clothes, not their skin. At least with the wipe, you can better control where it goes and they won't breathe it in like a spray.
My kids are very alergic to Moquito bites, the bite area gets bigger then the size of a dollars coin. I know I have read in the past from everyone about some vitamins I can give them. I just can't remember what. Also, when they do get bit how to treat it. My son god willing be turning 2 years old in June. I have taken them to a dermatoligist, and was told to use woods off. I would like something other then sprays. The spring just started and I already see the mosquitos, this week I will be putting up the canopy nets over the beds. :(

Hi M.,
I certainly understand you being cautious of using harmful product on you children - Although I in now way condone using toxins, Please Never, ever apply directly to the skin - this is the easiest way into the body.
A great video is Toxic Brew.

We do not get bit often in our family. I attribute it to our laundry cleaners, personal care products & vitamin supplements. Scents, perfumes etc will attract bugs.
People say eating sugar makes "your blood sweeter". what it does is use up your Vitamin B levels to metabolized the sugar - I believe this is what makes one more suceptible to bugs.
Visit www.nosickvisits.com if you would like to learn more about how I raised my family without toxins.
Hi M.
My first thought as I read your request was I wonder if they are deficient in B vitamins. Most bugs don't like you when you have enough or an abundance of B vitamins. That would be the first step. How do you get B vitamins? Well, my way is to realize that if you have enough or an abundance of Vitamin C, your body will make its own Vitamin B in the amounts you need to keep yourself in a balanced vitamin B state. OK so how much Vitamin C do you take? An allergist told me to take enough to give yourself diarrhea and then back off 1000 mg. Of course I was an adult then. I don't recall what he told me for the boys who were small then.
When bug bites are different on you than everyone else, it is an allergic reaction. Again that is a sign that there is not enough Vitamin B in the body to keep the cells built up so the allergen can't get into the bloodstream where they would produce a histamine reaction.
As for bug repellent, I liked a natural bracelets for the girls. They liked to wear them as anklets. I never used spray. Check with the health food store to see what they recommend. I did try Skin so Soft by Avon and back then it was only in oil and I made a terrible mess so didn't do it again.
Just a thought.
God bless you and let us know what you find helps.

TRY the "Don't Bite Me" PATCH.
It's all NATURAL, NO chemicals, it has B-VITAMINS that emit from the patch on your child's skin, which supposedly deters the mosquito's from coming near you.
I bought it at RITE-AID - so you should be able to find it in most drug stores over the counter.
It's vitamin B-6 that repels the buggers. Also, removing all sugar from your diet will make you abhorrent to them. I'm hypoglycemic and eat no sugar (and only 1 piece of fruit a day). When my family and neighbors are being eaten alive, the bugs leave me alone. If you do need a spray, I recommend "Buzz Off", which is a mixture of essential oils (mostly Eucalyptus Oil and Mint Oil) that is totally non-toxic to you and your kids, but is shown to work better than those sprays containing DEET (which is a carcinogen).
Hi M.. I know you're faced with a difficult choice. I caution you to understand the full implications of of chemical bug repellants - the long term effects can be horrible. Here are some sites with good research on this topic -
http://www.panna.org/ also, www.breastcancerfund.org (Good info on toxins and health. This info is bigger than one type of cancer or one gender).
I've heard (makes sense, but not necessarily 100% effective), that eating a lot of garlic, probably raw, can emit an odor that is repelling to bugs. And, you may think, to humans, but a lot of health conscious folks eat raw garlic daily as an immune stimulant, and many people are used to / don't mind / even like, the smell of garlic from human pores.
Badger is a company that makes natural skin care products. (Packaged in round tins, at most natural food stores). They have an anti-bug balm that has worked well for me. In your kids' case, *reapplying frequently* may be the trick to making something non poisonous for them be strong enough to repel mosquitoes.
Hope this is helpful,
E.
I try to feed my kids extra garlic, I eat it too so I don't notice if they smell, but it seems to work. I've also heard of the Bounce dryer sheets trick. We also use the Off bug lanterns (away from where they are playing, but close enough so the smoke travels) If I remember I light them at around 4pm or so, just before the bugs come out & they work really well without coating my kids in spray chemicals. There are all kinds of mosquito traps on the market, but do some research, from what I understand of them they attract the bugs, which may make your situation worse before it gets better. Good luck!
As someone that out grew that very same allergy I feel for you kids.
I've used natural bug deterrents that I have found at health food stores. My mother gave me a liquid medicine for the bites when I was a child, but that was over 30 years ago, I'm sure there are other options now.
Good luck.
Onestepahead.com has a dark blue bottle that we bought and really love and it's natural. Hope this helps!
Hi M.,
I have had the same problem with mosquito and green fly bites since I was a child. I used to take a B-vitamin every day to help prevent the bites. Now this is going to sound strange but I remember my parents making a paste of meat tenderizer and water to put on bad bites. I have also used Benedryl cream and I had a topical cream that was prescribed by my doctor that really helped to take the swelling out of the bites and to prevent the bites from getting infected (sorry, but I don't remember what it was called). Now I just apply some sort natural repellant and that seems to help prevent me from getting tons of bites. Sprays with lemongrass, eucalyptus, peppermint, citronella, and/or lavendar all work as natural repellants. Good Luck.
Try avon's skin so soft. It's a spray or oil you rub on, but it is kind of like baby oil and doesn't contain deet. You can also get it with sunblock in it.
Try garlic or food with garlic. I was very allergic to mosquito bites and live around the swamplands of NJ. I know I have a diet heavy in garlic and also know that it deters lots of other pests, i.e. ticks as well. Never been bitten by one of them it must be the garlic. My daughters are not bothered by them either.
I have used California Kids for my child. They have a natural bug repellent. I have also heard that Skin So Soft by Avon has bug repellent properties.
We have found that Listerine or the store brand repels mosquitoes pretty well. I put it in a mister bottle and spray it on people and around the area. Also, the solid deodorants seem to work to stop the itch of bites. Good luck!

Avon has really good bug sprays on sale. I sell alot of them.
go to whole foods, there are natural repellants there. he might be allergic to the deet, which can be cancer causing anyway. also unscented 'bounce' dryer sheets. crinkle it and rub it on him. there is a slight chance of reaction, so test it out on a small part of him first.
good luck.
Hello M.,
I understand how you are being careful with the chemicals you put on your children I have been working for a great company that is extra careful with there products and the chemicals they use in them. I started using these products just over a year ago now, I used to use the skin so soft with avon and I loved the way it would make your body soft as well as fighting off the Mosquito's but I found that it did not work as good as i wanted it to and also has chemicals that I would not want to put on my children..
I am now making an income staying home, my house and family are now using safer products with no chemicals and saving money all by switching stores and using better products. If you would like more info go to my website at http://www.motivated1.tk fill out the form in the get more info tab and be sure to tell me in the comment box when the best time to call you would be and we will talk more and I will answer any questions you may have
Hope you have a good day
