Mosquitoes in My Office!

I have a new problem at work...Mosquitoes! About 3 weeks ago, I saw the first one in my office...now I'm killing 1-5 per day!
Other producers on my floor have had the same problem in their office. No one can determine where they are coming from or why they have appeared recently. No windows and only one exterior door that is never propped open.
My question...is there any way to repel them without having to spray chemicals on me or in the office?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

So What Happened?

I've been experimenting with your ideas...thanks to all of you. I appreciate everyone's input.
I put dryer sheets around my office and keep one in my back pocket. Not only has it helped, but it makes my office smell clean and fresh!

As far as keeping the mosquitos off you without chemicals, have you heard of Jordan Essentials? Bath & Body products made in Nixa MO. When you use the lotion bar, it's main ingredient is beeswax. The beeswax dteres mosquitos.

Try putting some Bounce fabric softner sheets out in your office. It will also help if you gently rub an unused sheet on your clothes, arms, etc. Don't know why it works but it kept mosquitoes off us at an outdoor party in Texas where they have the biggest mosquitoes I've ever seen.

As to why they are there, look for any standing water. They just might be coming thru the bathroom. But for a good solution try putting mouthwash mixed with water in a spray bottle, then spray any surface you can, including yourself. Hopefully, that gets rid of the bugs.
good luck and let me know if this works for you.

Are you sure they are mosquitos? Could they be the fruit flies...they look like little mosquitos. If you are sure they are the nasty little insects then look for water somewhere. Standing water is where they lay their eggs and one mosquito can lay a lot of eggs in one batch of water. We have used repelant bands for a few years. They look like the coiled key chains. They are plastic and glow in the dark and you can wear them your ankle. We found them at Walmart, but I'm sure most of the drug stores have them. Hope this helps some. Good luck and God Bless.

If you have plants in the office, I would actually check them as to the source of where they are coming from. If they are coming from there, check with your local gardening shop and ask them if they have something to get rid of the pests and if not, then remove the plants from your office (& pitch them) then wait a few weeks and bring in fresh new plants to liven up the office.

L.,

Go to Bass Pro, I have copied the info from their website and pick up a ThermoCell Mosquito repellant device. We have one and it does not stink. Also look for standing water maybe an office plant is the culprit.

Good luck

There is stagnate standing water somewhere. That's where they breed. You have to find it and get rid of it. Even over-watered houseplants can have enough stagnate water in the pot for breeding them.
Also, try putting bleach down ALL drains (sinks, floor drains, etc).

There are some plants that repel mosquitoes. You should be able to find what kind they are on the internet. Although like the others I think they might be fruit flies or another kind that we call shitsy flies.

Good Morning L., I have never tried it yet, but have heard the dryer sheets repell them pesky critters.
Try laying one on your desk, or slipping one in a pocket.

There are plants also that are supposed to repell them also, right now I can't think of them, I think it's a lemon fern?
I did a google search and came up with several links

God Bless you and hope you find the source
IS there a sump pump in the building? If so check there for standing water.

You would be the perfect person to try the new OFF Clip On. You could just set it on your desk.

Please let me know if it works. I have been waiting to hear a review, but your situations seems like a good one to try it in.

Good Luck!

L.,
I saw that one other mom posted this idea, but I wanted to add to it. Last weekend my family went camping. I had just gotten an email about putting listerine in a spray bottle and spraying around where you are sitting to repel the mosquitos. Well, I thought it couldn't hurt to try, so we did and it was amazing! No one w/us (11 people all together) got bit the whole weekend, unless once when we were outside our camp area. Since you are inside, I don't know if you could spray it or not, but it's worth a shot...and plus everything smells minty fresh :)

Hey L.,

I have some product that you can use that are all toxin free and do not stink!!! They are wonderful and work really well. I put them on my husband and 2 year old son and myself (and I'm pregnant with twins) to go mushroom hunting and not only did any of us not have any mosquito bites we also did not have any ticks on us!!! It was awesome, usually my husband comes back covered in ticks and has bites all over him and finally I reminded him to use these products and they worked so awesome. Let me know if I can get you more information on them. I would love to share.
