Orabase paste works awesome! I used to get them all the time from stress. Get the paste not the gel.
Good luck.

I had some sores in my mouth after some dental work and the dentist recommended Peroxyl. It's a mouthwash specifically for sores in your mouth. Works wonders! I use it now anytime I get a canker sore and it clears really quickly. My 7-year-old has also used it on canker sores she's had from accidentally biting the inside of her mouth.
You can find it at any drugstore near the regular mouthwashes.
use a pinch of powdered alum on the sore, will hurt for the first few seconds but then it will numb it for quite some time.(hold it to the sore for about 30 seconds then spit and rinse) My kids say this takes the sore away in a day or two. We do it twice a day atleast. If you can't find powdered alum just crush some of the crystals between two spoons to make it more powdery.
It's a canker sore. Those appear INSIDE the mouth. Cold sores appear OUTSIDE the mouth, on the lips and corners of the mouth.
It should go away within the week. To ease her pain, you can apply baby Orajel (for teething or teeth pain) to it and it will numb the area. Works especially well just before eating. She can swish with warm salt water too, and is best done just before bed.
They are NOT related to the herpes virus like cold sores. Generally a reaction to acidic foods, stress or irritation of the mouth area. Time is the only cure to make them better!
And if she's miserable (I once had 9 as a kid), a dentist can prescribe "Magic Mouthwash". It's a combination of benadryl (to reduce inflammation), lidocaine (for numbing) and I think an antibiotic. It's swished in the mouth (like listerine) and spit back out. It's fantastic, but not sure if your 8 yr old is up for that.
Good luck to her! It took me til I was about 30 to outgrow them :(
Give her L-Lysine & Pepto Bismol (milk of magnesia, maalox etc. - acid reducers). L-Lysine is in the vitamin section. It will reduce the pain and then diminish the sore in a couple of days. I have given it to my son at age 8 and we have taken it for years for our mouth sores. Gargle, and only swallow a little bit of Pepto Bismol before bed. Do not drink anything and allow it to coat the mouth. B/c it is an acid reducer it will help internally as well as externally.
I've used & tried everything else out there - I'm 45 - and nothing works as good. Salt water, baking soda & hydrogen peroxide do not do anything. Glyoxide does not do anything. Abreva only works if the sore has not broken through.
*Nutritional lysine supplements, like L-lysine, provide essential amino acids that help with tissue growth and repair. This can reduce the occurrence of canker sores and limit the expansion of small canker sores. - from external website*
I also use it for pimples - it helps with tissue repair - they're gone in a day or two - works wonders!
I hope this helps. I know how hard it can be with a little one in pain from a mouth sore. Good Luck!
Please call her dentist and make an appointment. They can do an X-ray to see if it's an abscess. They can show like this.
It could also be from not brushing her teeth well and bacteria grew.
It could be an apthous ulcer, or what is more commonly known as a canker sore, she could have bashed it while brushing her teeth.
Could be so many things, you have not given enough info. How long has she had it, how big is it, how is her oral hygiene?
Could be a frenal attachment pull, could be gingivitis...etc
It sounds like it might be a cold sore. I used to get those when I was a kid. Try some neosporin on it, and if it doesn't go away in a few days, you might want to get her to the doctor.
