Go 4th and learn
Basically the mentors will be 4th graders and the mentorees are Mostly 1st and 2nd graders with some form of cognitive disability (Mostly kids affected by Autism, Cerebral Palsy, etc).
Purpose is to help kids with disabilities learn skills for reading, make them more successful in the classroom and promote a love for reading. At the same time the older kids learn awareness, acceptance (Different but the same) and tolerance.
Need a catchy slogan. I like "Teach me and I remember, Involve me and I learn" -Ben Franklin . But still looking for something catchy and fun either quotes or your own words.
TIA,
D.
Love all the suggestions. This is not through her school so I cant use the mascot idea =(. She is taking a leadership role in scouts and and since she loves reading and has a special needs sib it just seems to be a win win. =).
I like the idea of a bridge. It connects both sides so the impact of direction is both ways. So.... Our motto would be
"Building bridges, one book at a time." or "Building bridges, a word at a time."
Go 4th and learn
"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." -Frederick Douglass. I am an avid reader, and I have a bookmark with this quote on it. :)
