Put it up in a ponytail and if she won't let you time out you are the boss after all.
I know it sounds trivial, but my almost 3 year old daughter will NOT let me put her hair up in a ponytail, even a small one. She has the most beautiful curly fine hair, just past her shoulders. I do good to get in up on the sides with clips but that lasts only about 2 seconds with the way she moves and plays. Any ideas on how i can get her hair up out of her eyes without cutting it? (I just can't.)
Well I have decided that for now, the hair thing will just have to be a "give and take". There are certain times (photo sessions, special occasions, etc.) when I WILL fix her hair and put it back up every time she pulls it out. On normal days, I let her wear it down. That way, she still feels as though she has some control and a say in the matter, and she knows when she is expected to let me put it up too. I am going to buy some mousse and see if it makes a difference in how her curls hang when her hair is down. (Maybe she will hate the way it feels in her hair and then I can suggest we put it up instead. Ha! Ha! Ha!)

I know your pain! lol My daughter has lots of long, curly hair (fine, too), and if I don't put it up, she has a "mane". lol ;) Anyway, I started buying barrettes with characters or flowers or something she likes and then, she liked putting them in my hair. She seemed to warm up to them a little more. Of course, I also encouraged her with a little chat about how food was getting in her hair, which she agreed was "yucky". :) She keeps them in, though, not perfectly (of course) throughout the day. Best wishes!
Give her a toy to play with or something to distract her while you are fixing her hair. Or try telling her she gets a sticker if she does well.
I have two girls, a 4 & 7 yr. old. My oldest DD has thick, curly hair and she HATES for me to touch it, brushing, washing whatever-she can't stand it and always cries whereas my second DD has fine, wavy hair and she LOVES to do her hair or have it done-she can whip up a hairdo in no time. My 7 yr. old still can't do a pony tail...go figure. All that to say they both like different things/ways to do their hair. 4yo-anything goes, 7yo-likes headbands only, however, we have a rule that we stick to in our house. If we aren't going anywhere or anywhere that matters, i.e.-grocery store, park etc. then they can do their own hair but anywhere else we go, Mommy fixes your hair. There is no arguing, no questions-this is the rules and we follow them. They also know that if they take it down, it's going back up. I am not one of those "because I'm the Momma, that's why" but i have found that if I give and take, and choose my battles and stick to them it helps. HTH
It must be a 3yr old thing!! My 3yr old has hair passed her shoulders it's wavy and SUPER thick. As much as I hate to get onto her about something so minor I don't want her to get hot. So in my house she sits or else....
Well, I have a 7 year old that I STILL fight with to do her hair, but I'm the boss. Sit down and do it or else...
Have you tried a headband? They have those fabric ones that are more comfortable.
