Along with going to the doctor, take a multivitamin. Also take two flaxseed oil capsules and fish oil capsules a day. My mom noticed a huge difference within weeks of doing this. It is good for you no matter what. Good luck.
I know we naturally shed hair each day, but lately I'm losing at least 100 strands or so when I shampoo (daily) as well as that same amount again throughout the day when I comb it or even just as I sit. It's getting so bad that clips that used to hold my hair now slide out. I'm starting to worry. I remember shedding some hair after my baby was born 3 years ago, but this is much more than that was. A friend said it might be my birth control pill (loss of estrogen from going from one pill to another)? But I switched from Yasmin to YAZ almost a year ago, so why am I just now noticing it? My mom said it could be stress-related...but life is always busy, and I don't feel more stressed than usual. Today I went to get my hair trimmed, and after the stylist shampooed me, she said, "Oh my gosh. Look how much hair came out!" I was embarrassed and worried. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks in advance.

I had this happen a year or so ago. I switched to Alterna shampoo. It is an all natural shampoo that is made for helping keep healthy hair. I stopped losing hair for about a year. It is expensive, but cheaper than a wig.
Well, I am not 100% sure about your situation. However, I know I lost a ton of hair after my second was born. Don't remember having hair issues with my first. I was so embarrased one day at the hair dresser. He was brushing my hair and he was pulling balls of hair out. He said, "Do you know that you are losing your hair?" All is fine now after one year and done with breastfeedin - no more hair issues. I think it was the hormones. However, I was a bit concerned!
It could be a number of things. I *know* how scary it can be and when it first starts to happen you panic. But don't. There are a lot of things that it can be that can be easily fixed.
#1 Get your thyroid checked. It's one of the most common reasons.
#2 Get your iron and FERRITIN checked.
#3 Could be hormonal
#4 Sometimes it happens a few months after a surgery or an illness...any of those?
#5 If you switched a year ago I doubt it's the ACTUAL pill.
#6 It could be a vitamin def but it's rare.
I've been dealing with hair loss for about 3 years now. It's horrifing at first and very depressing. Mine has never stopped. It started 8 months after my second child.
Of course I'm not BALD but my hair continues to fall out and I've lost about 70 percent. I've gone through the WHOLE process...EVERY doc you can imagine. BUT it doesn't bother me anymore. It's just the way it is. =)
Anyway feel free to shoot me an email if you need any info!____@____.com

Well, I'm going to say what everyone else said, Go to your doctor and get labs drawn.
I did last year and I went to a dermatologist, and nothing is wrong with me, I'm just balding. but things I have done to reduce and grow more hair is I bought a Nioxin Kit, started taking vitamins and a calcium pill, and eating healthier.
It is depressing, but your not alone.
Do you have any other symptoms - headaches, weight gain or loss, fatigue? Could be releated to your thyroid. A simple blood test will let you know. talk to your dr.
The responses you have gotten are all great so I won't repeat. I'd just like to throw in two things. I take thyroid meds and get it checked every year. Sometimes, maybe only once every 2 years, my hair starts shedding for a time and then quits. I can relate it to stress but I know that stress that I had a few months before. I forgot what the doctor said to explain it but I think it was hormone or vitamin deficiency related. We burn through some vitamins during stress. So, even if you get on thyroid meds, know that it might occasionally happen again. My hair always came back in.
The second point I wanted to make is that anytime your body shows an unusual sign, get your bo-hiney into the doctor. Don't guess or have someone else guess and just live with it. The results could end up being disasterous. Even some doctors are guilty of bad guessing, particularly male doctors with women patients. They guess stress, pms, menapause, whatever. Don't accept that unless you are going through crazy bad stress and even if you are, there might be something you should do or take for it!
Go to your doctor and have your thyroid checked. This is a major symptom of hypothyroidism.
If it is not your thyroid - your doctor can help you figure out what is going on.
Good luck...
Definitely have your thyroid checked! This happened to me - it was terrible! Also, it happened when I was pregnant and the OB chalked it up to hormones (since my thyroid was in check).
An endocrinologist should be able to help you (they focus on thyroid problems) although other doctors can try to help as well, but I feel Endo's have more experience.
This happened to a close friend and it was her thyroid. Her family doctor ran a test and it came back negative for thyroid issues. She was convinced the results were wrong so she found and endocrinologist who ran a more detailed test and he diagnosed her with hypothyroid.
Definitely check with your doctor. Hair falling out can be a sign of something going on with your body that needs addressing. Dr. Oz said on one of Oprah's shows that it's not something to ignore, while it can be as simple as stress, it can also be something more. Sounds like the Thyroid might be the cuprit, based on your other posts. Best wishes!
I have a friend who was losing the hair on the sides of her head. She eventually only had hair on top; two doctors told her she would be that way for the rest of her life! Well, she started taking certain vitamins and it grew back and she's never had a problem since. If your thyroid checks out fine and you would like to try and solve it the natural way, contact me and I can get you the list of what she did. I do know offhand that she increased her vitamin B intake a lot.
K M I think it is time to have your thyroid checked. It is often an issue for women. Different sysmptoms for hyper or hypo but can include weight gain, hair loss, trouble sleeping, heart palpitations and if not treated can have serious ramifications. Hope this helps
THYROID!!!!! Especially if you have other hypothyroid symtoms..weight gain, depression, dry skin, feeling run down! Please go and have a full thyroid panel run and see how it turns out. I would suggest asking for an ultrasound of your thyroid too. It will help catch nodules or goiters on your thyroid that indicate a problem even if your blood work results come back normal. Keep us posted! ~A.~
I skimmed through the responses & want to also say get your thyroid checked out, as you see your family doctor. That's a side effect. I had to start taking thyroid med 8 yrs ago when I was pregnant with my first.
