Do you have friends or acquaintances who work in different jobs? Could you ask them to have coffee and tell you about their work? Networking like this is a good way to find out more about different types of work.
Can you do some internet research? Our state put together a website called iSeek.org that allows you to complete vocational assessments to get ideas about what types of work would fit. It also has data on the demand for different jobs, salary ranges, etc. And what types of training or education is needed.
Could you hire a Life Coach that specializes in career issues? If you google Life Coach TX you'll find people with training in coaching and their specialties. A coach is not a counselor, but someone who can work with you to make life changes.
Or, could you find a Career Counselor? Similar to a coach but more likely to use formal assessments and tools to help you identify options.
Added: As Marda says, there could be classes offered. I have taught a 5-session class through a non-profit called Career & Life Planning for Women.
