Call his pediatrician' s after hours number.
I was able to stop the bleeding pretty quickly however i am worried as several hours have passed and he will not eat anything. Should i go to the Er?
Call his pediatrician' s after hours number.
Call the pediatrician's 24 hour line (the regular office line) and leave a message with the answering service, then wait for a call back. I would never choose to sit in an ER unless directed by a physician in a case like this. There was no loss of consciousness, right? His eyes are focused, right? He's just not hungry, right? Those are the types of questions that the pediatrician (yours or the one on call) will ask - that's how they determine whether anything else needs to be done.
I'm not surprised he's not eating - his mouth and gums may be sore, and there may be pain in the nasal area that makes chewing or swallowing more uncomfortable. If the nasal passages are swollen from the fall, he may have trouble breathing easily when his mouth is full of food. Maybe he's just seeing stars a little bit.
Kids don't need to eat as much as parents think. Fluids are fine. Try popsicles, jello, watermelon, watery fruits, anything in small bites that can dissolve easily with minimal chewing.
And nosebleeds are common in kids who are at the age where they walk and trip. They aren't usually serious even though they look awful.
No. He's fine. Maybe see if he'd be interested in a milkshake or a popsicle. If you don't have any, go get one. Popsicles will keep him hydrated but don't require real eating. Milkshakes have filling milk and ice cream and lots of calories to keep him going.
Use an eye dropper to give him milk so that he doesn't have to use his lips and teeth (sucking on a bottle hurts) or a cup. You don't want him to get dehydrated. I don't think that eating is an issue, but he must keep hydrated.
well, maybe his chops hurt.
it doesn't sound like a huge deal to me. wobbly toddlers have lots of bang-ups like this. nosebleeds are kind of scary for all concerned, but it sounds as if you handled it efficiently and that he's fine.
the ER is really for emergencies, and a nosebleed that stopped hours ago and a baby who doesn't want to eat aren't really emergencies. there are super-sick people in there. i myself would not expose my baby to an ER unless it were truly an emergency.
for me this would be a wait-it-out scenario. i'm betting that he'll eat soon, especially if you tempt him with soft easy food that he loves. puree some bananas or something.
if you're really freaking out, call your pediatrician and have the answering service contact the nurse on call to call you back. she'll talk you through whatever worries you have.

My daughter fell off the couch onto her Platex Nurser bottle. Her front tooth jammed up into her gums. It died eventually and fell out. She was fine after a few days. Mouth injuries hurt like crazy. Think about when you get a fever blister or accidentally bonk your cheek or bite your inside cheek.
You would't feel like eating either. If he will drink at all for you then he should be okay for a day or so. If the nose has an opening outside or even where you can see inside the nose then does he need stitches?
