I wouldn't worry too much about it right now but since she's only 20 months old can you trim bangs whle she is asleep?
That way at least, it won't be in her eyes.
Mammas,
My tot's hair is still fine and thin, but they are growing long, over her nape, and falling into her eyes and face, and sometimes small tangles form. The brat won't let me comb or brush them, she won't keep on a head band, won't allow me to put on a hair clip, or those soft smooth rubber bands. Absolutely nothing! This has been the case since beginning, but I always managed to hold her down and brush once in a while. Am not much concerned about her being 'girly' with all the girl goodies, but now it's grown long enough to bother her face and eyes, and its summer! If she's this frisky and adamant with me, imagine my horrors if I decide to take her to get a hair cut!
I've made her watch how I'm brushing my hair, how am wearing clips/headbands, etc. She jumps, takes the brush and tried to either brush her own hair, or brush mine, but won't let me do hers. If I show her a pretty clip, she'd want to pin it on my head, not hers. Sometimes, when I stealthily manage to get a clip on, smartypants discovers them within 5 minutes, and tears them from the head and throws them away. Am fast losing patience...should I really bother much at this age? She's 20 mos old..
Ideas anyone?
PS: She's perfectly well-behaved with other things. Its only her hair!
Thank you moms.. :)
Ok, so trimming seems to be the best idea..OK, will wait for a chance where she'd fall asleep in daddy's lap and will lightly trim the section which falls on her face...
Thankfully, she lets me wash and towel-pat her hair just fine..will try the idea of letting her see in the mirror when I try to do her hair! :)

Two words: hair cut. It really may be the best solution. Find a place that specializes in children's cuts, or a hairdresser who is really good with little ones.
Your daughter is probably resistant to you because it can really, really hurt when anyone tries to comb someone else's tangles out. So don't try to cut it yourself. Let her know that tangles may hurt, but haircuts do not.
Early on, my daughter fought sitting to have her hair done also. Do it anyway, everyday. She will get used to it. Reward her somehow for cooperating with you. I used to put on the TV and have my daughter watch it while I did her hair. We use no tangle spray on her fine hair and it works well. Your little gal just wants to call the shots, don't let her, she doesn't know whats best at this age. Good luck!!
My daughter used to get her hair cut while sitting in my lap. My hairdresser was very good at cutting away from her face and still getting some kind of style. However at the age your daughter we did it ourselves. My husband held her on his lap and I put my hand through her hair and cut off about and inch or 2 above my hand. A nice layered short cut.
My daughter was not big on barettes that much either but what I DID do, was made sure her hair was short enough so that it was not in her eyes and bothering her.
Get your hubby or someone to help - in reality, she IS old enough to sit still for a haircut!!! And remember, YOU are in charge!! Get control of her now or your toddler years are going to be hell; sounds like they're aleady starting!!!
Good luck!!
She may think a visit to the hair dresser and sitting in the special chair is great fun. Has she ever watched you get your hair cut? My son cried hysterically for his first haircut, but it was over in just a few minutes (my hair dresser is FAST) and it was so worth a few minutes of crying to have his hair decent on a daily basis. Are you using conditioner or a No More tangles spray?
I'd get her bangs. We have a couple kids oriented hair cut places in our area that have TVs, video games, and it's very geared to distracting a child to get it cut.
Get a referral from friends for a great kid hair dresser. My son has had his done by a woman at SuperCuts since he was 2 - she's AWESOME! They may be able to recommend kid friendly products to make the hair combing less ouchie.
Cut it!
My suggestion was to cut it while she was sleeping too, but a nice place should be able to helpyou out, bring grandma to help distract her and give her your phone or some other no-no toy to play with.
have you tried letting her look at herself in the mirror while you are styling it?
