Nanny of 2.5 Years Quit with Notice, Gift?

hi! our nanny of 2.5 years gave notice. She told us well in advance (7 weeks) so that we could find someone else. we love her and we know she adores our kids. she is great with the kids and we will miss her a lot. while we're sad, her giving notice was not really a surprise b/c taking care of two kids (3 years and 9 months) was too much for her and I think we all knew that it wasn't working. we found another nanny who will be starting next week (4 weeks before our nanny's suggested last day). I made her a photo book filled with pictures of her with the two kids and have invited her family over for dinner. is this enough, or should I give something more? we don't have a ton of extra money in the budget, and I certainly can't afford to pay the new nanny and the old nanny for 4 weeks. i'm not sure if it's expected that we give her cash when she is the one who quit? I want to end things on good terms (they are!) and i am grateful for all she's done, but i'm wondering if handmade gifts, dinner, and the photobook is enough? thoughts?

What can I do next?

I think that is a sweet parting gift. I'd offer to be a good reference for her. That can be priceless.

I think what you are planning is wonderful. I would NOT give her any money. She terminated with you.

Nope. She quit and you're giving sentimental gifts. That is enough. We have had a few nannies just about all ending very well and we were generous with them via bonuses but when someone quits, no monetary gift is expected. If I quit a job, I wouldn't expect my employer to give me extra money!

It is certainly enough. If you can and want to give her a card with a little bonus that's great but I am a nanny and have been for years. I would not expect anything if I was the one to quit.

I am confused why you would pay her for 4 weeks? Are you letting her go a month earlier then her notice stated? If so how much notice did you give her that she would have to leave a month earlier then expected? If you are terminating her a month early then some severance would be nice, but otherwise I would not worry about it.

What you have planned is kind and generous, no more is necessary.

You owe her nothing additional. I think what you are doing is sufficient.

We gave ours a $100 bonus when she left earlier this year, in addition to handwritten letters from each of us, including the kids, about how important to our family she had been.

I was a nanny for 1.5 years, and I think what you have planned is great. If you would like to give her a nice thank you card and maybe a gift card to a restaurant or Target or something, I think $50 would be very generous. No need to give her a week's pay or anything like that if you can't afford it.

I think what you've planned is great. I would ask if she would like for you to write a letter of reference for her.

where did the 4 weeks come from?
i think what you're doing is lovely. i'd also assure her that you'll always be a great reference for her, and if you can, a $100 bonus would be awesome.
but not necessary. 4 weeks pay is certainly not necessary.

So many people overdo it. What you're planning is fine. Are you completely cutting ties or will there be opportunity for socializing with her and her family? I'd make that commitment right now. Be friends with her and her family or cut ties completely.

I am still close friends with the family I was a nanny to. That was back in the early 90's and I've gone to their weddings, made one of their wedding dresses, done the decorations and set up for 3 others. The mom has moved away and is living with one of the adult kids due to health issues and I still chat with her too.
