Nasal Sinus Issues

My child has been having issues and I don't know what else to do. We're practicing more on blowing, but all that 'stuff' is still inside the nose. And I've been using suction to get it out, but not all of it comes out. If it's wet, then it's easier to get out. When it's dry, then that's where the problem is. My child picks their nose to the point of where it starts to bleed. How can I expel and/or clean out the nose and in a natural non-abrasive way?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went with the coconut oil because it was the least offensive to my child and it's working really well. And the best thing about coconut oil is the multiple uses. Love it! Thank you! Next doctor visit I'll inquire about allergy testing.

Go the the health food store and buy some coconut oil. Dip a q-tip in the oil and swab the inside of the nose out two times a day. It helps soften the gold nuggets if they are hard and also hydrates the nasal tissues. (It is supposed to be anti bacterial, viral and fungal too) We even use it as a moisturizer on our bodies. Since I've started swabbing my nose, I rarely have a bloody nose or mucus. And that is saying something here in Colorado.

My 7 year old has severe allergy related problems, and nasal drainage is one of them. We do the nasal rinse from NeilMed everyday. Works like a charm. helps with the post nasal drainage as well. Try using the nasal rinse squeeze bottle instead of the neti-pot. it's much easier to use by children. I can vouch by the results we are having with my child. Goodluck.

I don't know how old your child is - but go to an ENT - find out if he/she has allergies (they can test easily) ask about doing the sinus rinse with your child as well....it really helps loosen the mucus in the sinuses and helps with blowing, etc.

You've already received some really great suggestions. I just wanted to mention that I've been a chronic sinus sufferer for years now, relying on allergy meds to help me feel better (sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't). At the suggestion of one of my doctors, I decided to go completely dairy-free. It's been about two weeks solid of eating this way and I am 100% better. To make this really work, you have to really read labels because food items you wouldn't think would contain milk in it (bread for example), does.

Just something for you to consider if your child's sinus issues appear to be on-going like mine were.

Hope he feels better soon.

take a tiny bit of saline gel (over the counter) and swab out his nose once or twice a day. Dont leave so much gel it blocks his breathing. My son has nose bleeds every day if I dont do this once a day.
