Highly recommend "How to Talk so Kids will Listen, and How to Listen so Kids will Talk" by Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish. More and better communication means less disciplining.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any great books for disciplining a 10 yr old perhaps that includes disicipling a child of divorce and any great books on stepchildren and how to dicipline and deal with and bond

Dr. Sears book is geared a lot for infants, but also has great advice geared towards older children:
The Discipline Book: How to Have a Better-Behaved Child From Birth to Age Ten

I haven't read any of these books, but they are focused on older kids and have pretty good reviews:

Hi J..
There is a great website www.ahaparenting.com Dr. Laura Markham has effective and gentle and loving advice for nurturing and disciplining children of all ages. You can even write her.
another idea is Elizabeth Pantley...she is hte author of the 'no-cry' series, including discipline..she has a facebook page with an email address. she answers questions for free and is lovely.

Parenting Teens with Love and Logic
I second the Love and Logic books, as well as the How to Talk books. I also highly recommend Dr. Glenn Latham's works.
How to Talk so Kids will Listen, and How to Listen so Kids will Talk is one of the best parenting books ever. The authors teach you, in easy steps, how to communicate better and invite better communication. A lot of problems begin to fade when communication is empathetic and clear.
My preacher always has good resources.
I am a huge fan of Kevin Leman. I have read many of his books, and they have helped me in my adventure with raising my 4 boys. I know he has a book for step-families and I'm sure it's chock full of logical and practical advice. My favorite books that I read often are "Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours" and "Have a New Kid By Friday". Good luck. Here is his website for more info: http://www.drleman.com/store/index.php
love and logic has great books and cds to listen to.....
I recommend Kevin Lehman books on discipline issues, he also has great video series. new kid by friday etc.
We thought this book had a great philosophy: Dr. Phil's "Family Matters". The basic philosophy is "If you make good choices, you get privelges, if you don't there are consequences". The discipline applies to all ages and takes the blame away from the parents and empowers the kids to make the right choices. There is a book on CD, but I would recommend the book and the workbook because it has little quizes you take on what your personality is versus your child's personality and how you clash. He gives you insight to why you clash. It is really good. I heard similair advice on TV and the radio from two other people who are making a different with troubled teenagers. We have tried it at home and it works with our 9 and 7 year olds.
