Need Advice on a Good Foundation -- Not Too Expensive

I started using Mary Kay's mineral powder foundation about 1 1/2 years ago and fell in love. At first I was concerned about the price but I use it every single day and a container lasts me most of the year!! It really evens out skin tone and stays on well. Honestly I'd not switch back. I don't sell MK, just swear by it b/c my m-i-l has used it her whole life & looks about 5-10 years younger than her peers.

I think that my skin is very similar to yours. I also don't like to feel foundation on my skin or have it dripping off. I have tried many, and would recommend MD Skincare foundation sunscreen. It is a lot better than nothing, won't completely cover all redness, but can't feel it at all, doesn't irritate my skin, goes on effortlessly, and though a little pricey, seems to last forever. It comes in a white pump bottle with orange lettering, and I use the light shade. Can be purchased at Nordstums or dermadoctor.com . Good luck!

You may want to have your "splotchy reddish skin" checked by a dermatologist, just in case you have rosacea. No amount / brand of powder or foundation will make it go away, and it could get worse without treatment. I just thought that was the tone of my own skin, but the prescription lotion that I am using is definitely helping to make my fair skin much less red, more even toned and smoother looking. I love clinique's superpowder. It's a heavier powder but you can't feel that it's on and doesn't look like you are wearing anything. It covers completely. I hate the liquid foundations that feel like they are painted on. It's around $15, but lasts quite a while. I'm sure you can try it for free at any department store.

Hi K.! Before kids, I used to wear expensive (Dept Store) make-up. Now that I stay home, I'm using L'Oreal True Match foundation. Significantly cheaper and I think it's as good as my previous "luxury" brand. Like you, I have very fair skin and the L'Oreal offers a great color match. You can find this at drug stores (Walgreens, CVS, etc.) or at Target. I tried the powder-based foundation recently (Bare Minerals) and was disappointed -- I had to reapply throughout the day to keep appropriate coverage. Too expensive and too much effort.

If you sweat easily, I would recommend the bare minerals line (http://www.bareminerals.com/) as it is a powder and is more likely not to drip, etc. However, I am really loving Loreal's Age Rewind (http://www.maybelline.com/Product/Face/Foundation/instant..., which you can get at any drug store.

While it might cost a little more it lasts a long time and is wonderful skin, Mary Kay products. I love, love them. But I don't sell them. I think Mamasource has some people who do listed...

I recently had a facial and she recommended Avon's mineral powder. She said it was as good as Bare Minerals but not as costly.
