Need Child-safe Extermination

I have found a few centipede type bugs in my home and I would like to hire an exterminator. However, I am concerned that the chemicals they use will not be safe for my child. The bugs were found near her bedroom, so I cannot avoid spraying the area where she plays/sleeps. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Natasha:

If you can check the files, I have recommended A Plus Pest Control before and that is the only person I would use and trust.. I am out of town but can get their number for you when I return.

I use Chem-Wise. I am not sure if their chemicals are very different from anyone else's, but they are really conscious about where and how much they spray. The perimeter of my house gets periodical spraying (thay way we avoid carpenter ants building colonies), but they never spray inside.

Orkin sprays our home every two months for bugs and although I keep my 22 month old away from the areas sprayed until it dries, we haven't had any problems. The areas sprayed are along walls, so not really a space babies really spend a lot of time.
Good luck!

I think the centipedes are good because they eat other bugs. Maybe you won't have to exterminate them after you get them checked out.

Hi Natasha, we use Terminix. Our consultant told us that there isn't a spray for centipedes. The best way to prevent them from entering the house is to use a sealer in all cracks and openings around bathroom & kitchen pipes. Apparently they're looking for water. He recommended a product that comes in an aerosal can that has expandable foam. I haven't tried it yet, but plan on doing it soon.

We just had the same thing. We had C&M come out. We have used them before and have been really happy with them. This was the first time we needed to have something done inside the house and I was really nervous. Most of the treatment was actually done outside the house to get rid of them and he also gave me some advice on how to keep them away from the house in the future (don't put mulch all the way up to the house, get rid of all of the dead plants near the house at the end of the season, etc.). The only think he did inside the house was spray some foam stuff around the radiator and toilet pipes in the bathroom because he thinks that is how they got up to the main area of the house. It was sprayed pretty far in so I don't think my daughter could have gotten near it, plus we don't ever put her on the floor in the bathrooms, so I haven't worried about it. I haven't seen a centipede inside or out since.
