The old Nike slogan - JUST DO IT. I have a cold, jet lag and no matter what I will go to the gym at lunch,
Looking for something to give me energy and curb my appetite. I do not want to take diet pills, maybe something natural nat is harm free.
I am guilty, i drink coffee first in the morning and not enough water.. I went from a full time working mom to SAHM and do not know everyone in my neighborhood. I love to run but just don't feel the motivation to do it, since I go alone.. I have an elliptical at home but I get bored for the same reason. Maybe I will try a gym and make friends with other women there than can motivate me. I will definetly try the vitamin d3 and see how that works and if it doesn't then I'll try your suggestions until I find the one!! Thank you ladies!!

Believe it or not, vitamin D3 will give you loads of energy. It is anti-fatigue.
Also the ayurvedic herb ashwagandha. Both can be obtained from Whole Foods or CVS. As always, YMMV.
Working out will actually give you more energy, at least it does for me. The less I exercise, the harder it is for me to get motivated to go and the less energized I feel. The more I exercise, the more addicting it becomes because of how good I feel after.
While there are no quick fixes, the common-sensical things truly work:
*get enough rest each night (8 hrs is ideal but 6 works for me)
*drink 8 glasses of water a day (start w/4 to get you in the habit)
*drink water right before or with lunch & dinner so you don't overeat
*start w/walking Go for a walk every single day (start w/3 days a week first)
*invest in a treadmil (off of craigslist or newspaper) for inclement weather
so you can have it in your home & no excuses :)
*the funny thing: it's a catch 22....you're tired so you don't feel like exercising. You don't exercise so you're tired. What to do? Start w/some
exercise. I promise you that you will feel better and GAIN more energy.
*start small (walk 30 mins a day)
*be consistent (start w/3 days a week go to daily when you can)
*make a goal. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you set a goal
for yourself. It's like having a dream w/a deadline dangling like a carrot
in front of you 24/7. It's always in the forefront when you do it this way
*your goal needs to be attainable. Don't say I want to look like Cindy
Crawford. Instead say, I want to lose 10 lbs, look & feel great and have
more energy.
*Eat 6 times a day for ex., breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack.
The snacks are healthy & nutritional not cookies or ice cream. A sliced
apple w/peanut butter.
Good luck!
You've got in backwards, hon! You gotta workout to have energy. :)
Seriously....working out really stinks until you get into a groove. Then, it suddenly switches and you start looking forward to it and it gives you energy. I'd definitely opt for the gym if running and the elliptical bores you.
I take B-complx and it rocks the house. It gives me a boost of energy and makes me feel better overall.
Just exercise. It'll give you energy. Sounds fishy but it's true. Just do it. :-) Plus, I always eat less on days I exercise. Sounds odd, but it's also true. In addition, they say if you're "hungry" drink 16 oz of water, wait 10 minutes, and if you're STILL hungry, then eat. (something healthy, of course!) :-) Good luck & happy working out to you!
Shaklee has great Energy Chews - a great alternative to the energy drinks and shots that have harmful ingredients. They are used by Olympians who cannot afford to ingest a banned substance.
You may just need to change how you are eating. I am a personal trainer and would be happy to give you some tips if you are interested.
maybe you are dehydrated ? when that happens to me, I know I am a lot more sluggish. Additionally, pick me ups, such as coffee or soda, while they can pick you up, they will drop you down just as quickly. you didn't note that you drink as such, but if you do, I'd curb those.. go with water... also... maybe you just need to start out slowly.. go for a walk and build stamina slowly.. if you haven't worked out in awhile, then taking it too quickly, will tire you and possibly make you lose interest..
Do you like to dance? try Zumba.. it's a lot of fun.. I find I do better when exercising in a group setting. it's more fun and less boring too..
best to you
Black tea with a bit of lemon works well for me when I have that afternoon desire for a nap and/or snack.
I think the biggest challenge in getting motivated to working out is finding something you LIKE doing. I, personally, HATE running and the "machines" (elliptical, treadmill, etc...).
The trick is to try a number of different things. If you can find something that works for you, and you don't hate doing it, that barrier in your head is removed. I've worked out at home for 10 yrs. As such, I now have a barrage of equipment that I've collected. But to get started, go to www.collagevideo.com, and preview different types and instructors. Find one you like, and a type you're interested in. Go from there.
I, personally, love TaeBo and Cathe Friedrich. I mix them up to keep from getting bored.
As another posted said, working out will eventually provide you with more energy, so you just have to get over that initial hump.
You don't need to take anything other than a multi vitamin. Research has proven time and time again that exercise does in fact boost energy. The hard part is the first step out of the door or the first jumping jack:)
