Hello there, I am hoping someone knows how you can remove yellow discoloration from white plastic. I have some baby equipment that I stored away and when I got it out, some of the white plastic had turned yellow from the heat of storage. Does anyone know if there is anything that would work to remove this discoloration?

Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for your responses! I'm sorry to take so long to let you know what happened. The plastic is on a baby swing. I started with things I had at home first. I love Mr. Clean Magic Erasers and they did such a fantastic job at getting any scuff marks off the plastic. But for the discoloration, once I scrubbed the plastic down I placed it out in the sun for a few days. Some areas that had the discoloration is gone or very faint. One area still has a fair amount so I scrubbed again today and am letting it sit out again. It looks like Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are the answer. And if not, I will try vinegar or one of the other methods mentioned. Warmly, L.

It's not stained - the heat & possibly sun have changed the plastic & possibly made it weaker. I would suggest getting a can of white spray paint made specifically for plastic & just paint it white. You should clean it thoroughly and rub it with a little steel wool before you paint it. A good hardware store can advise you on whether you need to prime it first.

Have you tried the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser? I haven't tried it on what you are describing, but it takes permanent markers and crayons off certain surfaces.....works great on tile grout too!
Good luck!

You might try and use a heat gun. My dad used it on his motorcycle, the plastic had turned pink and when he hit it with the heat gun it went back to red.

I think I know what you're talking about and I really dont know of anything that would take it out as the plastic itself has changed.

What kind of baby equipment is this? If it's a decorative item, painting or covering it - ie, with cute paper or (oh the name slips my mind.. those sticky peel off rolls you find where you also find shelf liners).

If it's something more functional such as a baby swing I'd be careful if it's a weight-bearing or baby-supporting piece as the plastic is probably more brittle now.

And let me know how it turns out, if you find that there is indeed something that will work!

Hi L.,

Have you heard of LOC? It is a multipurpose cleaner which has a 180 day money-back guarantee. The company is eco-friendly, been around for 50 years, and the product does not have a harsh smell. I don't know if it will work for you, but you may want to give it a try. Go to SomethingSpecial.mychoices.biz for more information. Once there click on the Home tab, then click on basics. I would say bleach might work but you will have to soak it for awhile.

Try scrubbing really well with a Mr. Clean eraser. Then set it out in the sun. This often works.
