I want to make the cookies in a jar for teacher gifts this year. I have looked online and found many different recipes but not sure which one to use. I would like to do gingerbread but alot of the reviews I have read say that the dough was hard to work with or they had to add extra ingredients to make it right. I dont want this problem since this is a gift. A great sugar cookie recipe would work (and probably the cheapest route) I want to add a cookie cutter to the jar. Has anyone made these? Do you have a great cookie recipe to share? I dont want to give these out and the recipe is a flop! Thanks for the help and info moms!

What can I do next?

Here is one of my favorites:

Ultimate Chippers Mix (makes one 1-quart jar)
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 cup white chocolate chips
3/4 cup coarsely chopped pecans (optional, toasted tastes best)

1) Combine flour, baking soda and salt in medium bowl; stir well. Por 3/4 cup flour mixture into 1-quart wide-mouth jar with tight-fitting lid; pack down well. Add 1/4 cup brown sugar, remaining flour mixture and remaining brown sugar to jar; pack down well after each layer. Add granulated sugar, 1/2 cup chocolate chips, pecans (optional) and remaining chocolate chips; pack down lightly after each layer. Seal jar.
2) Cover top of jar with fabric. Attach gift tag to jar with raffia or ribbon, do not forget the directions to make the cookies (below).

Ultimate White Chippers (makes 4 dozen cookies)
1/2 cup (1stick) butter, softened
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 jar Ultimate White Chippers Mix

1) Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
2) Beat butter in large bowl until smooth. Beat egg and vanilla until blended. (Mixture may appear curdled) Add contents of jar; stir until well blended.
3) Drop dough by heaping teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheets; transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

This link has 9 different cookies in a jar recipes... tells you what goes in the jar and an instruction for the giftee part. I think the M&M recipe looks the best... especially since you could use just R. and green M&Ms to make it nice and Christmas-sy. :)

I would caution against giving what I consider a "complicated" cookie. Often with sugar cookies the recipe calls for chilling the dough, then you roll it, and then cut it out, then the icing, etc.

Something they can mix up, drop on a pan and enjoy:)
I third the snickerdoodles OR the cake in a jar that is already cooked is fun, too. We got one from the lady who does our embroidery a couple years ago - YUMMY!

I'd agree with snickerdoodles. Easy and everyone likes them. And just the name SNICKERDOODLES on the jar will look cute ;)
