I love baked salami. Thinly slice Genoa salami or mild soppressata (available at the deli section, just be sure to get the kind that is about 2 inches across, not the really wide kind; sometimes the deli offers it behind the counter and sometimes they're sold whole, wrapped in thick paper). Lay the slices on a baking sheet (lined with parchment paper, or unlined) and bake at 425 degrees for about 10 or 11 minutes, until they're bubbling a bit and lightly browning. Remove from the oven and let them cool on a cooling rack. As they cool, they'll become beautifully crispy. They can be served as is, or with a tiny dollop of sour cream and a sliver of basil leaf for a slightly prettier presentation. They're delicious, and really no more difficult than slicing good salami and baking it for a couple of minutes.

Had a sample at our local Kroger of Jalapeno pepper jelly on cheese sitting on crackers and my husband and I had a fit over that jelly and I am not even into jelly. But when you team that jelly up with brie cheese you get the creamy cheese and then this hot/sweet jelly on top and the combination is unbeatable - just an explosion of flavor. We bought the jelly on the spot and that's our before dinner app treat every night.

Spicy nuts - you can find various recipes online for tossing walnuts or pecans or almonds with good spices.

A veggie platter with humus or ranch dip is always popular, pita crackers and humus, a gourmet artisan thin-crust pizza cut into little squares, mini meatballs, baguette slices with a tapenade or a creamy cheese spread on top, maybe cocktail sausage like Vienna sausages, ham and cheese roll-ups, an imported cheese platter assortment, or a cured meat platters (prosciutto, salami, sorpresatta). Fresh Market has a great assortment of these, but even your local grocery store (here we have Publix) may have some ready-made platters for events like these. You could also check Costco, Aldi or Trader Joe's. I have seen pre-made platters on sale at places like Publix, although you could call and order one to be ready for the evening. You could always just buy a bunch of pre-sliced meats and cheeses and some sausage and cut these, while arranging them beautifully on a plate or tray.
