We have been using Blue Lizard for years. Love it. I don't usually find it in the stores, bit it is very easy to order online.
I've read the posts others have recently made about the natural sunscreen recommendations, but I'm specifically looking for one that does not leave the white film. I've used Dr. Hauschka's sunscreen for a few years and LOVE it, but there have been some new regulations in Europe and rather than sacrifice the truly non-toxic nature of their sunscreen, they've just stopped making it. :( So now I'm left trying to find another one that we can all use that is just as pure, and doesn't leave us all looking like ghosts. Any suggestions?
I appreciate your responses. I tried to ask my question in such a way that would deter answers telling me why the whitening sunscreens are better, or why a sunscreen with toxic chemicals is better, or why no sunscreen at all is better, etc. I am aware of the pros and cons of each, and I appreciate that everyone has their own views on how to protect themselves from the sun. As I mentioned, I was using Dr. Hauschka's sunscreen which rubbed in very easily to get rid of the white, but was all natural. I was hoping to find a sunscreen along those same lines. I think I'm going to try the Badger brand after hearing from one of the respondents that the white rubs into the skin fairly easily, and it, too, has all natural ingredients. So it sounds like it's closest to what I'm looking for. Thanks again for your responses!

This is going to be tough to get around. The natural/safer sunscreens are actually sunblocks and work by titanium or zinc oxide providing a physical barrier to the sun...that's what makes the white film you see. Sunscreens contain many chemicals that are absorbed into the skin and block rays that way....those are the chemicals that are under fire now and you are looking to avoid.
Arbonne has several sunscreen's one is specifically for kids when we had our pool we all used it including the adults. It does NOT contain Vitamin A and all of Arbonne's products are made from natural herbs and botanicals, they are vegan certified, dermatologist tested and an additional pediatrician tested on our baby products. Formulated without PBA's, Mineral Oil and a long list of other potentially toxic ingredients. The products are formulated in Switzerland where they have very high standards and regulations on what is allowed in products but Arbonne is MADE IN THE USA. For more information or a free sample please contact me in a private message with your information.

Eat lots of good fats (especially grass-fed butter and coconut oil) and spread coconut oil on your skin and you won't burn. I make my fair kids wear sun hats too. We've been fine with this. We eat loads of butter first thing in the morning for sunscreen but for energy too and it helps fill us up.
You can add a few drops of neem oil to the coconut oil on your skin and also repel insects.

Netruogena has a spray on that doesn't leave you white. I just picked up 2 bottles From CVS (about 12.00 each). One as SPF 30 and the other was SPF 100.
Hi
All natural and has Melaleuca oil, SUN SHADES from Melaleuca is great. And it doesn't leave a white film.

I just got sunscreen from http://www.purpleprairie.com/ and it's great! It was one of the highest rated on ewg (http://www.ewg.org/2010sunscreen/finding-the-best-sunscre.... Their prices are reasonable and shipping was fast. I also ordered their natural bug spray.
At the end of this article is a link to the best and worst SSs.

the ones that dont leave you white contain nanoparticles which recent research has shown to be quite toxic. I use an SPF 30 from ALBA. its rated at a 4 but contains no nanoparticles and i dont feel it is as bad as california baby which does contain the nanoparticles
I second the use of Badger.
Here is a link to an article by the Environmental Work Group and why they have such a short list of acceptable sunscreens. Apparently most of them contain Vit A which when exposed to sunlight, increase the growth of cancerous skin cells.

I feel your pain. We are using Soleo and it ends up soaking in and not being too white. My son is latino and using physical sunblocks vs chemical has been enlightening. Most non-chemical products leave him looking gray and sickly. I've been pretty pleased with the Soleo except for the pricetag!
Hi P.,
Our Dr. only recommends Coppertone Waterbabies SPF50. It does have the white film but I will take the trade off. Also, the rub-on needs to be used and a minimum of a "shot glass" amounts needs to be applied (not the spray). I think your best bet would be to check with your Dr. because there have been a lot on "bad" ones on the news lately.
Good Luck!
Have you tried the brand Badger? That is what we use and like it.
