I need to take my daughter who is three years and three months old out of her present in home daycare that she's been going too since she was three and half months old. At this time I cannot as a single mother afford to pay for her to stay there, does anyone have any advice about public daycares/preschools that are state funded?
I don't want to take my child out of where she is but for me to be able to make enough money for us to get by each month I have to. I'm worried about how it will effect her, moving to a whole new environment full of strangers. Anyone know of places she could go that is state funded? As an EMT, I work awkward hours so I have to be able to drop her off early and pick up late. I do have family that can pick her up but not drop her off. From what I've researched the hours are from 8:00 to 3:00, for us it has to be 7:00 to 5:00.
I'm frustrated and need help. My daughter needs to around other children and interact with them and have the chance to learn.
Any advice anyone has would be great.

What can I do next?

I had several kids from one family that had both parents working at pretty good jobs. They only paid 1/4 what their monthly bill was due to qualifying for state child care assistance. They did have a co-pay and they paid it each month.

Applying for child care assistance is pretty easy. You get the form, fill it out, provide SSN cards and other forms that show your income and bills then they look at it and you find out if you get any assistance.

Each licensed child care place has a license to operate a child care business. It may be a home, it may be a center, or even after school care by the YMCA. They have to apply to get a contract with the state to accept the subsidy payments. Some don't want to hassle with the state so they choose to not accept this type of payment, so the don't have the contract with the state for this type of payment.

I would go apply for child care assistance tomorrow.

I would then get a list of each child care place that accepts their payments.

Then I would give notice to the current caregiver that you are looking for a different care giver and why so that she can plan ahead. She may have 20 phone calls per day asking for child care and if she is full she tells them she isn't taking any kids, if she knows you are leaving she can tell them she may have an opening coming up and take a name and number. She may also decide to budget her money more closely if she knows she is going to lose a child. Also, is she open to accepting state payments so she can keep your child in her care? It's a fair offer from you.

I would call each and everyone one of them and find out if they have an opening for your age child and if they do then set a time when the director will be avail. so you can take a tour and discuss your child coming there.

I googled child care assistance in MA and here are some helpful links.

This one is full of links of how to get assistance for just about everything in MA, even mortgage foreclosure prevention.....

Here is a link that answers some questions about getting assistance and a couple of the links show the offices that you go apply to.

Contact your state's human services dept. childcare division and talk to them. You might qualify for government assistance and then she could stay were she is at. It is called CCAP here in Colorado.

All I can say is good luck. I have been looking for daycare assistance as well, and here the wait is more than 3 years .
