Hi, Mommies,

I found out yesterday that I have a small brain tumor. It appeared on a CT Scan when I went to the ER for dizziness. I'm not sure how I feel about it all yet. I haven't let myself think too much about it since I am busy with a little one and a very surprised and emotional husband.

I have to get an MRI to figure out what this mass is all about. Do any of you know of a neurologist that you trust in our area? My hope is to find someone today and get the MRI done this week.

What do you know about Northwest Neurology, Dr. Katsamakis in particular?

Thank you!
K.

So What Happened?

Thank you for your responses! I have an appointment at the end of this week. I'll be relieved to have some more information so I can be ready for what is coming my way next, whatever that may be.

I appreciate your kind words and thoughts. It helps more than you may know!

I really like my neurologist. He is in Warrenville and worth the drive!
I get a MRI every year to monitor a tumor in my brain. I had someone sugggest an open MRI - but he insist on closed because it is better.
Not to put a scare into you (I have three small kids too) but some brain tumors are more aggressive and need to be acted on immediately.
Here is his info -

We see Dr Sperry out of Central Dupage Hospital in Winfield. He is pediatric, I think, but his office and the hospital have been very kind to us, so if you give them a call, I bet they could give you a reference.

((hugs))

Hi K.,

Anthony DiGianfilippo M.D. out of Alexian Brothers Health System (Elk Grove, IL) is a great neurosurgeon and came highly recommended from more than one of my doctors when we found out my mom had a brain tumor 2.5 years ago.

Helge G Frank, MD is my father's long time neurologist for his MS also out of Elk Grove, affiliated with Advocate Good Samaratin but he's part of the practice called Medical Neurology Associates Sc and they do have an office in Elk Grove across from Alexian (he may have access there as well).

Best wishes to you! There are some really great doctors out there!
V.

As a Wife, Mom, Sister, Daughter and Friend (not yours of course), I would like to ask you to please see more than one Neurologist at more than one hospital in more than one town.

Please go to one of the big hospitals in the city for more opinions (regardless to what this one says)....PLEASE!!
