On Wednesday she woke up screaming at around 4am. I tried everything with her and she would not go back to sleep in her room. So I ended up giving in and let her sleep with us. Last night the same thing again at 3am. She screamed like she was terrified of something. This time I didn't move her to our room, but it took daddy a while rocking her to fall asleep. There haven't been any traumatic events or anything.

What can I do for nightmares, if thats what it is?
She's 20 months old and my first child, so I'm pretty clueless.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the help!
She did the same thing last night.

I've checked her mouth and don't see/feel any 2 year molars yet.
I did remove the giant bear and bunny she had in there, hopefully tonight will be better. If not, I'm hoping it's just a phase and that it passes quickly. lol.

my six month old used to wake up out of nowhere with terrifiying screams and cry forever. we asked out doctor about it and they told us that children do get nightmares and it is usually from anxiety- missing a bottle, missing a feeding, a parent. my neice is 3 and her parents took her to a halloween store and she had nighmares for a few nights. it could be anything- even overstimulation. maybe changing up your nightly routine a little will help. reading books, a soothing bath, or falling asleep with mom and dad in the room may ease her sleep. sorry shes going through this :/

At that age, my son suddenly because scared of a stuffed giraffe that he been in his room since birth. He'd wake up at night and start crying like that. It took us a little while to figure out what it was. Once we took the giraffe out of the room, he went back to sleeping normally.

It may take some investigative work to figure out what's scaring her, but look around her room for things that might look different/scary in the dark.

Awwww....poor thing. Is there something scaring her? A noise? Headlights of cars going by?
Have you tried some white noise in case it IS a noise waking her?
I don't think you can do anything to prevent nightmares...just attend to her & calm her as you have been doing.

Well,it could be a few things. Two things come to mind. Either she is getting her two year old molars or she could be going through a growth spurt and having growing pains. Check her mouth to see if she has any teeth coming in the back of her mouth. If not I would give her some infant tylenol and a warm bath before bed. If she is getting teeth the hylands teething tablets are a godsend. They are all natural. Go to walmart, target, walgreens. They all carry them. They are 5-6 dollars a bottle.Something is startling her that wakes her up. Good luck
