Progesterone is a depressant. I regret the time that I took progestin pills. I became extremely short tempered and moody, did and said things I wish I hadn't, and even hallucinated. And that was a low dose.
So I can't really complain to much here since I haven't had a period since February but my OB brings up that this isn't necessarily a good thing and mentioned jump starting it with Progesterone pills. Have you done this before?
The no period thing really doesn't bother me much :) Odd for me, all the bloodwork has turned out to be fine so his guess is that either my ovaries are taking a break for a while or extremely early Menopause...lol
He gave me the options of either birth control pills (not needed) progesterone only pills, or just waiting it out...I kinda wana skip the drugs and wait it out but wonder if others have heard that not having the period as being bad especially in the long term...something about needing the progesterone in the body.

GEtting to the bottom of the reason is probably best. My first inclination would be to say that either
1) You have recently lost too much weight
2) You are exercising too heavily (more than 1 hour per day more than 5 days per week at an intense level)
3) You recently stopped breastfeeding and your own hormones are still adjusting.
Only you know if you are doing some dangerous or excessive dieting or exercising, but in my experience, this is usually the culprit in someone of childbearing age to lose their periods.
If none of those reasons apply to you, you really need to investigate why you are not cycling appropriately. PCOS? A thyroid problem? For me, it was weight loss, breastfeeding, AND too much exercise! I went on BC pills for one month and that did the trick.
I don't know the answer to your question, but I do urge you to understand your condition better. Doctors offer progesterone along with estrogen while in menopause to help prevent cancer.
So with THAT reasoning, if you are actually in early menopause, you need to have bloodwork done to check your estriol levels.
You also need to know what it will "cost" you to not have estrogen/progesterone in your body.
I'd go back to the doc if I were you, get bloodwork done, and then talk about what the bloodwork really means.
Good luck!

I'm having that issue right now.
I was told I could take the pill, get an IUD or do the Progesterone pills. I chose the Progesterone pills. I take them for 14 days and off for 14 days. I'm on my last cycle. 6 cycles total.
1. Be sure to have a preg. test first.
2. When you get that first period - it will be SUPER heavy. I cannot tell you how insane it was. And for like 12 days. It flushes out the lining that may be building up in there.
3. Is he sure there is no other issue? I ha to have a uterine biopsy to rule out cancer, etc (to find out why I was not getting my period). When you rule all out - it's a hormonal issue.
So I would have a talk with him and then go whichever route suits you best.
Hi....I had the same issue and did take prgesterone twice or thrice and it worked out well.......they were suspecting PCOS in my case and I also have a thyroid condition.
I did the progesterone thing. I had been on the pill for awhile and went off of it because it was making me ragey. I went from Dec to Oct with no period and so my dr gave me progesterone. It did what it was supposed to, started my periods up again. It was making me nervous not having one, so I'm glad it's back.
I don't know your age, but here was my experience. I had my one and only child when I was 39. I breastfed so I didn't get my period for about 7 months. Then I got my period regularly for about 6 months. Then it stopped. I went in for tests including a complete blood work up. They said all my hormone levels were normal and suggested jumpstarting it with hormones the same as for you. I was leery because I have never reacted well to birth control pills and I really did not miss having my period. My period never really came back, got light spotting a couple times and then a couple years later I got one last period. Never any other symptoms of menopause that everyone complains about. I had my hormones retested a few years later and I was solidly in menopause. Wow, that was early but really easy! I am glad I didn't take the hormones.
My cycle skipped a month when I was trying to conceive the first time (so, of course, I needed my cycle to be more regular). This was very odd for me, and my OB/GYN gave me a shot of progesterone to get things back on track. It worked and my cycle was regular until I became pregnant.
