Noisy Air Filters

I just changed my air filters and they now make a noise every time the air goes on and off. The filter seems to get sucked up when it goes on and then falls down like a centimeter when it goes off. The problem is that the one in my bedroom wakes me all night. I thought it might be the air filter, so I went and bought the ones that used to be in there and it still makes noise. I had the same problem in my old house. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do about it?

What can I do next?

It sounds more like the bearings are a little off track and may need to be replaced. What will happen is that as your unit kicks on, it will make a rumble for a few seconds until the motor gets spinning and balances out the force. It will not break your unit unless you leave it like that for a long time. It is not that expensive to have fixed. Definitely cheaper than replacing your unit. My husband does heating and cooling service and repair and we have come across that problem a lot. Good luck.

Hi D.!
You may be using the wrong type of filter. Our new home warranty people told us to use the cheapest filter we can find, not the expensive allergy control ones which are wove too tightly so no air can pass through, probably the reason you hear it getting sucked up each time the fan kicks on. As long as you change them regularly you don't need to worry about all the dust and allergens collecting in them anyway (every 3 months I think is recommended for ours). I also spray mine with Solumel to help with freshening the air and a little allergen control.
Hope that helps!
Jenny

Hi, I asked my husband who is quite handy around the house. He said to put either a piece of foam or duct tape on one side as there is a gap in there. Just to wedge it tighter. Hope this helps.
