Nose Bleeds in Infants

Have you tried more iron rich foods and a cool humidity machine. Or boiling water on the back of the stove! Dry air can cause nose bleeds! A bit of non scent cream can help to! Happy parenting!

Nose bleeds are often a result of the air being too dry. It sounds like you are experiencing these more when she has been sleeping. I would recommend you set up a cool mist humidifier in her room and run it while she sleeps to see if that helps solve the nosebleeds in the first place.
As far as how to deal with it once she has the nosebleed... try to teach her to hold a paper towel over her own nose and pinch it for herself. I was told the best place to pinch is not at the end of the nose, but along the bridge of the nose. If she feels she has control, it might help, and at age two she should be able to begin learning to do this for herself. It may take some time and she may resist, but I think if you are consistent with it, she will learn.

humidifier is a good way to prevent them but advice to stop them is if you can get her to suck on a piece of ice. I've had chronic nosebleeds ever since I can remember , finally grew out of um, but the fastest way to stop mine were to suck on a piece of ice. or put a clothe with a piece ice in it on the outside of her nose and have her lay on the opposite side from the nostril that is bleeding. Show her how to do it and explain that it will help it stop.

My entire family has a history of nose bleeds, which we all out grew by 12-14 years. The suggestions you have so far are great, but in the event she still gets the nosebleed here are a couple of suggestions to add to your list: Try packing the upper lip with gauze ( a little trick they taught me in the ER). Pinch the nose WHILE bending as far forward as possible to keep the blood from running down her throat. Teach her to do this and it will be easier on all of you and gives her a sense of some control.

Try putting a humidifier in her room at night. My family gets alot of nose bleeds in the winter wehen the air is drier. A humidifier helps a ton. If her nose is not gushing, just have her hold the tissue for herself if she is willing. My daughter just hated being confined when she was that age, and doing it herself thwarted a tantrum.

I was told by a friend whose daughter was prone to nosebleed to put vaseline in the nose at night to moisturize and help heal the blood vessels.

This had stopped her daughter's nosebleed and had stopped mine too. You can try it for several nights and see if it does stop for yours. Good luck!

My 7yr old son also gets lots of nosebleeds & has since he was younger. He still fights me sometimes when I'm trying to help & blames me for them! I just try & be calm & this helps him calm down too usually.

He has had his nose cauterized 3 times (burning of the blood vessels inside the nose). His dad & I both had nosebleeds as kids & had to have our noses cauterized as young teens & since then we don't get nosebleeds anymore. I think because my son is still growing he just keeps making more blood vessels that are really close to the surface.

Anyway, what we have found works best & is easy to do is apply vaseline in his nose every night. The doctors recommended this & it dows work, you just have to be consistent about it.

I personally don't like humidifiers as we used them when the kids were little & it grew mold in it & also grew mold in their bedroom it was used in.

we got a humidifier. During the winter both my daughter and I will get nosebleeds if we dont have one on in our rooms.

the humidifier is a great idea. also try an OTC nose saline solution and put in in the nostril that bleeds( advice from my peditrician). my son gets them all the time! if he crys to hard or sometimes when he wakes up. now the nose saline remedy is NOT easy! so be ready for a fight unless your daughter is pretty cool about it, ei my son has never gave me problems with taking any kind of oral medicine whether it was nasty or great tasting. but she has a dry nose.
