ns..New Born Eats and Eats

My daughter was breastfeeding. But, during her 2 first weeks, she had to stay at the hospital and I was pumping. I had to pump like crazy to keep up. Fortunately, I was producing a lot!
The nurses couldn't believe the amount they were giving her in her bottles, close to what you mention.
But, she was a big baby (nearly 10 pounds at birth).
As long as your baby doesn't seem to suffer (gas or tummy ache) and is gaining weight in the normal range, I would't worry.

I don't know anything about formula-fed babies, but my daughter was a huge eater. She was 8 1/2 lbs at birth, over 10 lbs at 2 weeks, and by 4 months she was nearly 18 lbs! That was really her fattest (and WOW was she fat) - she slimmed out quite a bit around 12 months of age, and is pretty average at 19 months. I wouldn't worry about it until he's at least 18 months old, and not at all then unless his height and weight get too far out of proportion (like he's 30% for height but 97% for weight)

Don't worry about how much your baby is eating. I know that Nutramigen is soo expensive, but if your baby seems hungry feed him. As long as he is gaining weight I wouldn't be concerned that he is eating more than the others. My son was the same way and he eventually tapered off. Good luck.

Our oldest child drank so much formula, we called him a Similac Addict! He guzzled that stuff like crazy. I would shake my head thinking what a nightmare it would have been if I had breastfed because I would just be a nonstop feeding machine. The pediatrician didn't seem concerned about the big intake of formula. Our son was a big baby, but now wears special size slim pants as a seven year old! His eating as a baby in no way reflects his eating now ... in fact, now he hates to eat. So, don't worry about obesity down the line because we just didn't see that.

mt baby is 4.5 mnths and barely taking 6 oz every 4 hrs. I wish she ate more, just be happy that he is drinking good.

Yep, that sure is a lot! Does he spit up a lot? My youngest had reflux and spit up most of his feeds, so went through a lot of formula because he was still hungry. Once we treated his reflux, he fed normally. Thats my only thought, if the doctor isn't concerned that at least you don't have to worry too much, other than the cost obviously. I don't know why he is on Nutramigen, but if spitting up is the reason, maybe it is reflux and can be treated?
