How do you charge them? I'm getting the kids the DSi XL for Christmas and want to start looking out for deals on them, maybe a case and 1 or 2 games. I was looking at an accesory kit that includes a docking station for charging (and a case, and cleaner towel things etc). Do I need this docking station to charge it. Or does it come with something else? Does it come with a rechargable battery? I assumed it would. Maybe a USB cable to charge it with or something? I don't want to get this docking station if I don't need it - I just want a case for it, which is cheaper than this whole kit thing. Please help, I'm so ignorant about these things!

You don't need a docking station, it comes with a power cord. Although the car chargers are very handy.
I'm not positive (we haven't bought one of those, but we have 3 DS Lites in our house), but most of these devices come with a power cord. It is the type that plugs into the device and directly into the wall. It's a wall charger. Not sure why anyone would want a docking station for it?

I highly recommend the car charger, the little cases to put the games in, and the Nerf cover, if your kids are young. We do not have the docking station.
My DSi came with a rechargeable battery and a power cord - it plugs into any regular outlet. I did buy a separate car charger for my son to use on road trips.
We have had a series of hand helds over the years and I have never bought the accessory cases - never needed them. :)
It comes with a cord that looks a lot like a cell phone cord. I bought the accessory kit for the DSIxl which came with a car charger, now that was handy.
We have the DSi and DSi XL. It comes with the wall charger but I do agree that the car charger is very handy. I would look at the cases. They have some that fit around it and protect it if it's dropped. The only other thing I would get is something to keep the games in. They are small and easy to misplace. You need a box or something to put them in. We just use a clear Sterlite box and keep the chargers, games, and DSi's in there.
Someone has probably told you that they come with a power cord to charge them. I wanted to tell you that if you are going to get an accessory, the one that we love best is the nerf cover. It protects the DS from damage when they drop it, and they will. Have fun!
