ok, so when i was nursing my son (5/07-5/08) my left breast got a plugged duct so i used a warm compress and massaged it and had the baby nurse and it went away. Now last june i had the same sort of pain in the same spot so i used the warm compress and it went away. About a month later it happened again so i did the compress again, but it did not go away this time, and by breast is still sore, like bruised feeling. Has anyone had anything like this happen to them? I need some advice. Thanks

I agree with the others. It may just be mastitis (inflammation of a duct), and they will have you go on antibiotics, but you should request a biopsy too. If it is red, hot, sore, skin tissue looks like an orange peel. Breast health is very important.

Call the Dr. asap. You might need a mammogram and/or ultrasound!

I think it is time for a visit to the doctor. It doesn't sound like you are nursing anymore, so its probably time to look for a more aggressive treatment for this recurrent problem.

Hi H.,

You should visit your doctor. I had a strange breast pain recently and it turned out to be no big deal. However I was fretting up a storm until I heard it from a pro. You have enough stress in your life, just go and put your mind at ease.

Hope everything turns out ok.

Best,
T.

It could still be a plugged duct. Position your nursling so their chin is where the spot is. Their chin motion while nursing will massage the area.

It's probably also worthwhile to make an appointment to get it checked out by your doctor just to make sure everything is okay. It's always good to be cautious.

Contact La Leche League. They are a wonderful resource for breastfeeding moms. I've called them quite a few times from nursing strikes to mastitis and they were a great help.
Just from my own experience, if you are wearing constrictive clothing (bra, shirt, etc.) that can put pressure on your breast(s) causing soreness and/or a plugged duct. Make sure your bra is roomy as well as your clothes in the chest area. Having your little one nurse as much as possible on the sore breast is great, but also apply a heat compress (or warm washcloth) before nursing, and get extra rest. You can also massage your breast downwards while nursing or after applying heat to try to loosen the plugged duct and get it moving out of your breast.
Hope this helps (always works for me)!
