What do you all feed your one year olds? I have a very active one year old boy and he is a very good eater. He eats a little bit of whatever we are having (if I cook) and still eats baby food. I haven't found anything he wont eat except bananas.....

Just looking for healthy ideas that are easy to prepare to help him transition to "table food."

What can I do next?

It looks like you got some really great ideas and suggestions from the other moms. Another one that my daughter loves is a grilled cheese. I always use real cheese, she likes munster, and I add a slice of turkey or ham to it, as well. Cream of Wheat is another that she likes and is fairly easy for her to practice feeding herself since it sticks to the spoon so well. Scrambled eggs are also good. Good luck and let me know if you want any other suggestions or ideas! :)

My son eats oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, bananas, applesauce, little mandrin oranges, grapes (i cut them in half), pinnapple, peas, carrots, corn, cheese toast (take a piece of whole wheat bread and put a slice of cheese on it, then put it in a toaster oven until cheese is melted), peanut butter sandwhich, tortillas are great, i take half a tortilla and spread cream cheese and jelly on it and roll it up, its a great treat! Another good one is to take graham crackers and spread flavored yogurt on them and freeze them for an hour or so and eat them. He eats pretty much everything, he doesnt like meat or noodles too much though, he would rather have veggies or something.

I think you're doing exactly the right thing. Just give him what you eat. make sure it's in small pieces and tender enough so he won't choke. Don't fall into the chicken nugget/hot dog trap. I've never made my son (now almost 7) "special" meals, and with the exception of Big Red Gum and Honey Walnut cream cheese, there's NOTHING this kid won't eat!
In the long run, your life will be easier if you do mire cooking and feed hi what you have. Good luck!

Both my girls (3 and 1 year old) love cucumbers. I cut them into small cubes without the peel and they devore them. Same thing with tomatoes, although my girls prefere diced, canned tomatoes (I can my own but the store bought ones are yummy too!). The other two things I've discovered that are gold are edamame and chick peas! Who knew that chick peas, cold, just rinsed from the can were so good! They are excellent, i even like to have them, they are also full of protein and fiber and work as an excellent way to keep your bowels healthy. I gave my 1 year old some just to see, fully expecting her to hate them and she loved them, kept signing for more until there were none left. Same thing with the edamame, I cook it and serve it with a little melted butter and salt, again she loves it!

Hope that helps, let us know what works. Good for you for looking for the healthy foods for your little guy!

there is a book I have found that helped me and it has been really handy because I too have a one year old, and couldn't find any recipes specificly for one year olds and so on. its a book by "Annabel Karmel" Called "first meals" "recipes little kids can sink their teeth into". it has great easy little recipes. I got a copy at my public library but I am sure you can find it on the internet. I hope I helped :) A.

Sounds like you are doing good, my boys ate whatever we had, encourage vegitables and fruit, what you encourage now is what he will eat as a man. Mine ate everthing but the table legs, I always had them try a bite of everything, to see if they liked it, when I gave them something new. Just be carefull of too much sugar, pretty young to develop a craveing for sugar. I used a simple syrup where I could it goes further, doesn't take as much sugar.

If he's willng to eat almost anything, then I'd say "let him!" as long as it's healthy. I found that Jonagold apples are easy to eat for my 20 month old. They're not as crunchy and as dense as Granny Smiths, and they're pretty sweet. My son also loves cucumber (diced in little squares) with italian dressing on top. On that note, he loves olives with italian dressing and tuna with italian dressing. When my son was 1 year, I think he was eating just about all that we ate, minus the jalepenos. I also made sure he got protein at each meal. Squash & Zucinni are great, but the zucinni edges might need to be peeled as they're kinda tough. Fresh blueberries were a fav for my boy around 15 months.
