I'm just curious. Has anyone that has/had ovarian cyst had trouble getting pregnant? My doc said it does not cause problems conceiving.....that was a year ago.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I didn't have any cyst the first time I got pregnant, which happened quickly. I know my doctor said the cyst wouldn't cause me to have problems conceiving, but I had some doubt. I'm going to give it a couple more months, then talk to the doc again. Thanks again.

Dear C., it depends upon what type of cyst it was. Do you have polycystic ovaries (PCOS)? If so, then yes you can have ttrouble conceiving because the egg does not release fully & instead becomes the cyst...

I & it took me 8 years to concieve partially because of the PCOS.

I am willign to share my experience with you if you would like to contact me.

C.,

I have a cyst on my right ovary.. I found this out because I was having alot of pain before my period and around ovulation times. It did take us while to conceive - but I miscarried the first time and than got pregnant again 4 months later. My daughter is now 15 months old.
I used the Clear Blue Easy Fertility Monitor and got pregant the second month of use (with my daughter). Wish I has found it earlier....

Don't worry about the cyst. I was told by my doctor that there is one on mine and since have had three kids. But I am sure it would be differant with each person. If you want another child then I suggest not even trying that always seems to slow down the process. I hope this might make you feel a little better about what the doctor told you.

Hi C.,
My mother had ovarian cysts that would burst every month. She did concieve twice with the cysts. The first one ended in a miscarriage at 13 weeks. The second one resulted in my youngest brother. There were complications but not related to the cysts.

I have the same type of cysts which started after our second child. I was breastfeeding and didn't get my period until she was 8 months old. About 3 months after that I started getting the cysts every month so I went on the pill to control it. We aren't trying now but from what i was told it (cysts) should not be a problem. One of my friends though did have trouble concieving. After a year of trying it is probably time to see your doctor again. I think anyone...cyst or not...would be told that after a year it's time to talk to some one (6 months if you are 35 yrs. old).

As for breastfeeding...you'll probably be fine. Each person is different though. My mom never had a problem with nursing my brother.
Good luck:)

Actually my younger sister has had problems with having multiple cysts in her ovaries. She has had a few removed and a few went away on their own. But every few months she gets more. Her dr told her that it doesn't cause problems with conceiving and sure enough she ended up getting pregnant with no problem! Good Luck! I hope everything works out for you!

Hi there! So sorry to hear that you have a cyst - it would seem like that would impact your ability to conceive. I had uterine fibroids and got pregnant the month after removing them. My advice - go with your gut - do some research - and then if your doctor still doesn't think they are an issue, maybe get another opinion.
Good luck!

I had cysts and ended up going through an infertility clinic and doing IVF. I'm not sure if that was the main issue, or that I also had endometriosis. I would talk to your OB Gyn about options you have as far as conceiving with this- I think it depends on the type of cysts you have. Some break up and go away during the next cycle, whiile others need to be removed surgically. At the very least, you may want to get an ultrasound taken to see what is going on. Good luck!

I had a couple ovarian cysts a few years ago. I never had any real pain with them and would never have known that I had them if a doctor hadn't decided to run some tests "just in case" my mild stomach ache might be something more. I'm not sure if I ever had more, again because I barely felt anything, but did just give birth to my first child. My doctor said the same thing your doctor did only I wasn't trying to concieve back then. I hope this helps in some way.

My husband and I also had a hard time conceiving our 1st child and found that I had a very large cyst on my ovary. I had it removed, however that did not do the trick by itself. After that I had a hystersalpinogram(sp?) where they flush out your fallopian tubes. After that procedure, I became pregnant within 3 weeks. I truly believe it was those things combined that helped to become pregnant. Since my first, I have had 2 more children and got pregnant on the first try with them. I would recommend checking this out with your Dr. It's worth a shot. Good Luck to you.

C.,

I had an ovarian cyst that ruptured about 18 months after the birth of my first child. It messed up my cycle so badly - and we were trying to conceive again - that my doctor told me I could either go back on my birth control or try a fertility drug to regulate my system again. We opted for clomid, the fertility drug. We conceived the first month - and thankfully, only one child! I would talk to your doctor. We did a number of tests and tracked my ovulation before we opted for medication. Both my sister and myself have had children after cysts - so keep trying.

Hello! I have a long history with ovarian cysts, I was put on the pill at age 17 to control them, in my early 20's they flared up and would burst on their own (incredibly painful but fortunately I never had to have any surgery) and in my mid to late 20's they calmed down. I'm now 31 and expecting my 2nd child, and it only took a few months each time to get pregnant. My biggest problem was the irregular periods after going off the birth control. Good luck!

I had several ovarian cysts as a teenager. I had 2 seperate surgeries to remove ovarian systs because mine were quite large. I then went on Depo so that I would not get any more cysts.

Fast forward 15 years and it took me about 6 months to get pregnant.

Not sure if I answered your question. I had ovarian cysts and did not have trouble conceiving.

I had an ovarian cyst rupture about 10 years ago. We have a 2 1/2 year old little boy that took us 2 1/2 years to conceive and 2 miscarriages. Now we have been trying for number 2 for 2 years and 1 miscarriage, still trying. I have never thought that maybe the cyst would have had anything to do with it, the docotrs have never brought it up in all the testing they have done. So I am not sure if it has anything to do with it.

Good luck in trying, hopefully it will all work out. I know how difficult it is to wait when something is wanted so badly - trust me - I know.

Yes, it does sometimes cause problems, but they are very common (from what I've heard) and lots of people get them regularly and they don't have problems conceiving. If you have been trying to conceive for a year, that is a sign of a potential problem, but may have nothing to do with the cyst. Keep trying, but you may want to start exploring tests to diagnose and interventions for assistance if you are really inclined to wanting to conceive sooner than later. Having a child already is a good sign, though.

I've been through 9 years of fertility struggles and have met a lot of women through the years in support groups. And have two beautiful kids to show for it.

C., Getting pregnant should work, eventually just keep trying. I just wanted to let you know that I had them as well, my son is just turning 6 months. Any way just and FYI after you have the baby if you plan to breast feed that may be a problem, I couldn't. Apperently there is something that may cause some women who have had cyst not to produce the milk needed to support your child. I'm only letting you know this because nobody told me and I felt horrible for not being able to feed my baby enough. I was seeing a lactating nurse, started to take some herbs that are suppose to help bring more milk in and I pumped every 3 hours, another trick to bring more milk in. Nothing worked, and about 3 months into it I found out that it does happen with someone that has had cyst. I just don't want you have to go through that like I did, you may be one of the women who isn't affected but if you are..... It was just so hard after having my baby (emotional)because I wanted to breatfeed soooo bad and I really did feel like "failure" in a sense that I couldn't do that for him.
Good luck!!

Hello C.,
I'm not sure what type of cyst or cysts you have, but I'll share my experience. I got pregnant after 9 months of trying, and only on my first ultrasound at about 6 or 8 wks for dating purposes, found out that I had a golf-ball sized cyst on one ovary (It didn't cause any pain though I had painful cramps every few months--but the pain was more on my right side--go figure!). I had no problems with my pregnancy--in fact my doctors said there was less chance of the cyst twisting and rupturing during pregnancy because the baby and uterus took up so much room. I had it removed with laproscopic surgery at about 3 months post partum, and have had no complications at all. It turned out to be a benign dermoid cyst.
Good luck to you!
