My hubby and I will be trying for baby #3 in a couple months and I wondering about the ovulation kits you can buy at the store. How do they work? How many test do you get in a box? Are they accurate? Did they work for you? or what brand did you like? I guess any info would be helpful. Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the info. I guess the real reason I wanted to know about the kits is because we want to try for a boy and I know they say the best way for that is to wait until the day you ovulate so the male sperm can get to the egg first. I just started getting my period back from my second daughter who is almost 16 months now. Right now my cycles are kinda crazy...my last one was 36 days long. So I hope the kits will just help to pinpoint my day of ovulation better. THanks again

hi
they work by measuring your LH (lutenizing hormone) which technically rises (when all things are a go) right before you ovulate.. hence sending a signal to your brain... release an egg.. with that said.... NOT all kits can necessarily detect the LH surge in that some women's surge is too low for the kit's threshold. Also, keep in mind a kit does not detect IF you are really ovulating but simply gages the LH surge.. OFTEN woman confuse this fact .. how can you truly know if you ovulate? charting is a good method.. whereby you check different things one in particular is your basal body temp.. when you have a surge in body temp mid cycle (whatever your midcycle is for you as not all are 14 days) and IF the temp stays about a baseline for approx 3 days, it is usually indicative of your having ovulating.. (See how to take charge of your fertility) it's a great book. Ovulation kits work in conjuction with taking your temp and other bodily signs and yes, if the LH is present can alert you to the fact that having sx within the next 24 to 48 hrs would be a good time to try and conceive..
They can get expensive though.. 12 to 15 dollars with only 7 in a box..... try the strips.. they are MUCH cheaper and you may have to buy them online....
depending how long you need to use them.. it's the way to go.... the boxed ones add up in price..
on fertilityties.com there is a store link.. they sale them on there much cheaper..
best of luck

I have used them. The target (7 tests) and walgreens (30 tests) brand. I have been using them for one month and have not identified when I ovulated. I will try again next month. My cycle is not regular at this point. I still have faith in them!

The brands I used were specific as to not drink water 2-4 hours before urination and mid-day between 12 and 8 to administer them. They come with specific instructions.

Good luck!

The ones with the lines drove me crazy (if one line is darker, but the other one is wider is that positive or not?)!! I recommend the ones with the happy face (clearblue easy) that tell you when to "go for it".

I used to get ovulation kits and pregnancy tests off Ebay, in bulk, and very inexpensively.

I've used several brands and liked them all, the digital ones are easiest to read, no doubting if its positive. I have a bit of a struggle getting pregnant, but i think 3/4 times i've used a kit its worked. How many tests you get depends on what one you buy, usually its seven i think.
