P.W.
my mother cracked a rib coughing. If he is in a lot of pain that could be a long time to wait for the doctor. Is he, and how bad is the cough. You might want to call the doc and talk to him/her.
My Father in law has had a lot ofpain under his right Rib. He doesnt think he cracked or fractured anythiing & hes going to the dr.monday, but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on what this could mean?? Everytime he coughs he grabs under his right rib & looks like hes in pain.. :(

Hi Ninenine - it could be a lot of different things. He could have cracked a rib although there would be other symptoms. It could also be pleurisy or an area of congestion in his lung. His gall bladder is right there as well. He'll be better off allowing the doc to diagnose what's going on.
That does sound like a rib problem - fracture or otherwise - I would go get an x-ray done sooner than later if he's in that much pain
I cracked a rib, so silly, by leaning over the seat in the car to get something on the floor. :) Yes, it hurts quite a bit for about three weeks and takes at least 6 weeks to heal. Several months to fee like it is totally fine.
Does it seem like it could be lung pain, not just muscle or rib pain? He could have torn a muscle on his rib cage- my mom did that and said it was horrible.
But if it seems like it could be in the lungs, I would not wait until monday to get it checked out. That could be something a lot more serious.
It is possible he cracked it (you don't say HOW though) or even more likely he dislocated it. Especially if he has been coughing very hard. Good idea for him to have it checked out.
could be teitze syndrome
I automatically thought muscle pain as well. I once pulled a muscle in my chest (due to a very bad cough, but it can happen many ways,) and I thought for sure I had cracked a rib, I had a sharp pain every time I took a deep breath or coughed. And, unfortunately, with pulled chest muscles, they never get a good chance to rest and recover since we use them to breathe all the time- so it can take awhile to recover. Hope it's just a pulled muscle!
If by under you mean below his right rib cage, it could be his gallbladder.
