Painful Canker Sore Inside the Lip

About a week ago I bit the inside of my lip accidentally and within couple of days I developed two small canker sores that merged into a bigger sore (less than 1/4"). Unfortunately i have bitten accidentally that spot few more times ever since so the sore is extremely painful now, especially when I drink and eat (due to the location). I try now to be very careful and not bite the spot accidentaly as I guess this delays healing, but any advice on how to alleviate pain and speed up the healing is highly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Try Peroxyl. You'll find it near regular mouthwash, but it's medicated. It's a rinse for dental sores. My dentist recommended it after I had some sores/scratches after dental work. I discovered it worked amazing on canker sores, too. Since it may be difficult to swish it around to that spot, I'd just put some on a cotton ball or Q-tip and get the area really good.

In the section with items for dentures, you can find mouth pain relief medications. They don't help it heal faster, but they will numb it so that at least it's not so painful while it heals.

Get something along the lines of anbesol to rub on a few minutes before you eat to numb it. Or ask your dentist for an rx of viscous lidocaine for same purpose. Be super careful to avoid reinjuring. Not much to do but give it time to heal.

Plain old salt water works best. When my son gets these (he is prone to them) we have him rinse morning and night with lukewarm salt water and the sore in gone in a couple of days.

I have an RX that works almost overnight. I have it because I used to get the canker sores pretty badly.

If I'm out of RX, I use warm salt water, and listerine. I believe my RX is just a stronger version of Orabase.

At night, coat the site with orabase then place a small piece of gauze or paper towel on it. It keeps the medicine on the sore.

It takes time for them to heal and yes I know how painful they are. Good luck.

There's a product called Orabase. Helps with pain AND re-biting!
Hate when that happens!

Baking soda. Works like a charm, just put a glob of it right on the sore.

There is a baby origel, or however you spell it, with numbing stuff that will help on the spot when you eat. Swish with hydrogen peroxide several times a day and before you go to bed and it will be gone in a day or two at the most. You can get the more expensive peroxicare that orthodontists recommend but I have found straight up peroxide works just as well but don't swallow!! it will give you an upset stomach.

I know how you feel. When I'm jetlagged, I chew the inside of my cheek in my sleep and that's just awful.

Use hydogen peroxide on a Q-tip on your canker sores after you brush your teeth. Although it's hard to brush your teeth, you need to keep the inside of your mouth clean. The hydrogen peroxide will help the healing process.

along with all these tips (which are good too), I have also rinsed with mouthwash when it gets really painful - it burns like a mother at first but then it numbs it. and the alcohol helps speed healing. good luck. I've tried about everything. usually they just have to run their course for the most part.
