Does anyone have the paragard iud and like it? I am breastfeeding and I don't want the Mirena or the pill so I was thinking of getting the paragard. Did you get a period after it was placed? Bad periods?

What can I do next?

Have one, love it, wouldn't trade it for any other kind of birth control. Yes, my periods are heavier, but the cramping isn't bad. I just have to remember to change my tampon all the time for about 2 days. So worth it to not bother with condoms or hormones.

I love the paragard. I am breastfeeding my 4 month old DD and have had the paragard for almost 3 months now. I had spotting for a week after it was put in and then nothing. No side effects or pain or periods. But then again, I wouldn't expect a period until your done breastfeeding.

I just got it back in December. I had blood clot issues after I had my daughter and my doctor did not want me to use anything that involved hormones, and we had already decided we were not having any more children. So far it's been great, no fumbling with condoms or remembering to take a pill every day. And it can stay in for up to 10 years, but can also be removed if you want to get pregnant again. The only thing I've noticed is that my periods are a lot heavier (as in, must double up with a tampon AND a pad and change both frequently - more of a nuisance than anything) but they don't last long (3 to 4 days, usually, as opposed to a week). I'm not more crampy or anything though, compared to before. When it was inserted I was REALLY uncomfortable for the first 24 hours or so - like, worst period cramps ever. Taking Tylenol and soaking in a hot bath helped. After that it was fine.

I had the paraguard IUD but had to get it removed because it moved out of place and because I had really, really heavy periods.
I've heard other people had good experiences but mine was not. Thankfully it was covered by my insurance so at least I didn't lose any money by trying it.

LOve loved it. Best decision I ever made. Had a baby in 2009 and trying for one more now, once that happens i am getting it back in until after menopause.
