Great place to go for movie reviews!! It will give you all the pros/cons, bad language/sexual content (if any), etc..
Hi Mamma's! I was thinking of taking my boys who are both 6 to the Percy Jackson Movie. It's PG which is okay for our church standards, but STILL, I alwasy want to check it out with other mom's to see what they thought cause you just never know, and I know it will have monsters in it.
SO mamma's, will it traumazie or entertain my kids?
Thanks!
Thanks Mammas! I went to a couple review website suggested and learned that it is geared to a 9 year old age group and above. So my hubby and I saw it by ourselves to preview it, and I am grateful. I think on eof our kids would have been fine, but the other would have been scared (more sensative one). I agree it is better suited for younger kids than most the Harry Potter movies, I guess they will just have to wait to see it for a few years. Thanks!

Check out commonsensemedia.org if you have questions about a movie's content. :) it's pretty handy.
I also have Church standards. I usually read detailed synopsis' from web sites like imdb.com or the movie spoiler. Here's a link.

Our son saw it just before his 7th birthday and loved it! However, his dad (must against my own wishes) has already exposed him to movies like Star Wars and Indiana Jones that have violence. Our son did say the Percy Jackson movie was scary, but wasn't traumatized at all. My husband thought the movie was much better than the Harry Potter series.
I went & previewed it because my 6 yr old wanted to see & decided within the first 5 minutes that it was not okay. The graphics were pretty scary & I know we would have had nightmares!
I was hesitant to take mine and I didn't want to see it. But I went. It was a great movie. I loved it and so did my kids. Not too scary. The medusa scene is kind of creepy - just because I can't imagine wearing all those snakes on my head.
best advice i'd ever rcvd is to check out every movie on www.pluggedin.com
Whenever you have movie questions concerning your kids, you can go to http://www.kids-in-mind.com/ and look at their movie ratings. They give you every blow by blow which lets you make an informed decision!

It was a great movie -- took my 14 and 11 year old and also took my 4.5 year old nephew - he wasn't scared but I was worried because it was a little much at times -- when they go to the UnderWorld and when they are battling some of the monsters it was a little violent and scary.....just depends on what your boys can handle!
I think the answer depends on what you guys watch as a family. The movie is a little intense in parts and does have a some fight scenes. My six year old enjoyed most of the movie but had a couple of concerns. Percy's mom gets killed(we think) pretty early on and then we find that Hades has her and Percy has to get her back. That part made my son upset("I would be very sad if that happened to you"). Percy's father (Posidon) is not around and Percy has a mean step-dad. There are a few other situations as well. As long as you are aware of and willing to discuss these topics, it is a good adventure movie where the good guys win and the bad guys lose. Percy does connect with his father and his mother is safe, so all things end well. The Common Sense website has reviews that I usually find to be objective and dealing with the same values we have as a family so you might want to check that out as well. They also do more than just movies.
