Are pets really allowed in the store? I want to go to a store where I can have help there and my puppy. This is more for the store in Sioux Falls SD because we will be close to that when we pick up the puppy.

Anyone got advice?

What can I do next?

Yes pets are allowed. My daughter loves animals and I don't so I take her to Petsmart so that she can see and pet the dogs and cats. The customers there are nice enough to let her pet their pets.

Call your vet first. A puppy that has not been fully vaccinated should not be in an area that is frequented by so many other dogs. If you do take the puppy into the store, carry it the whole time, do not let it walk around on the floor. The disease that springs to mind is distemper- it is easily transmitted and young puppies can have very bad outcomes if they catch it. The puppy training classes at Petsmart start at 6 months for this safety reason.

You can bring your puppy to Pet Smart, but keep it in a carrier or in the cart (bring something for it to sit on). I take my puppy to Banfield which is inside the store. They have a great wellness plan for puppies, it covers all the shots and spay/neuter and is worth the cost.

You need to be careful with your puppy until it is about 6 months old. Stay away from dog parks and try to keep it in your own yard or a smaller space outside to go potty.

In ours, yes.

I just asked a question last night about taking my doggie to the pet store and that's where I was LOL!

Congrats on your new baby!

PS: You could always call ahead of time and ask, just in case.

In response to the person complaining she'll never take her dog to Petsmart again because the dogs pee on the floor... That's why the floor is concrete. The people who work there are used to it. The OWNER is supposed to pick up and clean up their doggie's piddle or poo, and if they don't, SHAME ON THEM!

If the person for some reason is unable to pick up after their own dog, then the store needs to find someone to come clean up the mess--after they've taken care of customers first. Usually, if they're alerted to a mess/potty spot and there's no one at the moment to clean it up, they'll put up a sign alerting customers to the problem so no one gets hurt.

I'm sorry you happened to be in the store on the one day that the owner decided to neglect his or her duty. Some puppies and dogs get excited when they are around other dogs, and if a dog was in the grooming saloon but wasn't allowed to use the facilities outside after their salon treatment before the owner decided to go shopping...well, please don't blame the dog. Blame the owner.

The store is SET UP for the owner to bring their pets. if you don't like it, don't go.

We have Petsmart and Petco. They both allow you to bring your pets :) In the cart or on a leash. We usually only go to Petsmart. They have a vet there, and they do grooming. And they also have obedience classes. So there are usually pets around somewhere :)

Yes, they are allowed in the store. I went to one for the first time this weekend. Will not ever go back - dogs peeing on the floor. Thought it was sooooo yuck and no one rushing to clean it up. I literally had to walk looking at the floor to be sure I didn't step in anything! Yuck!!!!!

Wow, one time we went and my little puppy piddled in the middle of being assited (fitted for a harness), and the person working IMMEDIATELY said "I'll take care of that, happens all the time" ... walked to the cleaning station got what he needed cleaned up and said "Now where were we..." It is not that I would not have done it myself - we both saw/heard it at the same time and he just jumped into action. I think Cheryl found a bad location :/ My store has NEVER had random pee in it and the employees are always taking the grooming dogs out to go potty and for a walk around the store so they do not have to be crated the whole time. I really LOVE my PetSmart location, esp since they are my groomers!
