My child goes to daycare. We have been very pleased with the care, have really liked all "her" teachers and she is thriving. But, yesterday I saw her teacher who is new (teacher's own 2 yr old is in classroom across the hall) pick up another child by his arm. He didn't look like he was in pain but she grabbed him close to his underarm. I have seen her do this before when already holding another child. My fear is that she does this to my child as well and while it may not be painful at the time it could cause long term damage. Has anyone ever had to deal with this before? I feel like I need to bring it up with the director diplomatically, tell her what I saw, but would like any supporting information that this may lead to long term damage. Any advice or knowledge about this would be great. Thanks!!

I agree 100%. Go talk to the director now. She needs to know. Also I would tell the teacher what you saw and that you are going to go or have gone to the director. She needs to know that parents are watching her at all times. Don't apologize and say I'm sorry to cause a fuss but.....These little ones don't have voices yet to tell their mommies what is going on. Be strong for the little ones.
I fully agree with Ellen and Dawn.
With mothering, always go with your gut feeling.

I agree with Dawn. A child is more important than hurting the new teachers feelings. Don't wait, go to the director tomorrow.
Safety of the children is number one. Don't feel bad about having to do this.

As a day care provider myself, it is best to bring up classroom concerns with the teacher FIRST. If it isn't resolved satisfactorily then speak with the director. This is preferred by teachers AND directors. Teachers don't like to feel like parents are going behind their backs to complain about them, and directors have a LOT of other responsibilities and prefer that problems or potential problems are first handled at the classroom level.
