My husband and I are planning a weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary. We have always wanted to do a wine tasting tour and we want to stay a couple nights in Sonoma. We tried to do some online research but there are so many options it is overwhelming. Does anyone have any reccommendations of hotels or tour companies in Sonoma, or any suggestions of things to avoid? Any must sees? Thanks!

What can I do next?

What is your price level? Sonoma Mission Inn is gorgeous. There are a number of B&Bs in Sonoma (one is right off Sonoma Square).
Sonoma wine country is actually pretty big and there are different areas. I am most familiar with the south part of the county.
Carneros is the area in the south. Gundlach Bundschu is a beautiful winery, but they charge for tasting.
Artesa winery is in Carneros, but I think it is actually Napa County (very close).
Gloria Ferrar produces great sparkling wine.
Cline and Viansa are wineries just north of Sears Point Raceway.
Cornerstone Gardens in Sonoma is worth a visit for the gardens and retail (Meadowcroft Winery has their tasting room there)
Schug is also fun and there is another winery close.
Sebastiani has historical tours (very old winery)
All of these are within 15 minutes of dowtown Sonoma.

And then there is the Russian River Area. More spread out, but fabulous scenery.

I would recommend sonoma.com. Plan to visit one area, especially if you are only there for a long weekend. Feel free to message me if you like.

I don't know about Sonoma specifically, but when you are in town, if you have time also visit Healdsburg, Santa Rosa, Sebastopol. The main thing to enjoy is driving around wine country. It's GORGEOUS this time of year.

I'm not sure what your price point is, but we stayed at the Kenwood Inn in Kenwood and it was fabulous (pricey, but truly fabulous). We did an entire week in the region, spending a different night in a different place. We stayed at the Grape Leaf Inn in Healdsburg which was also very nice (great owners) and also at a great inn in Mendocino, which is probably further than you want to go. Enjoy your trip!!
