Hi R.,

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I can't imagine the sorrow you must feel without her. My heart truly goes out to you.

Many people choose the weeping willow to honor a loved one. I, however, would look a bit further. For example, I might choose a tree that she particularly liked, or one that flowers near her birthday. Or, if she was a very independent, strong woman who was not easily swayed, I might choose a tree that is hearty and endures any type of weather conditions. Your local nursery would be very helpful in choosing something.

God bless you, R.. I hope this special tree gives you comfort.

Hi Rosyln,
My mom & dad had a favorite park they would go to and walk my mom's best friend, Muffins a pompapoo. She died of cancer 4 years ago just after her 54th birthday. The park had memorial benches and also trees to plant as a memorial for loved ones. You may want to check with parks in your area and see what they have available. My mom was cremated so it's comforting to have a special spot to go to. I'm so sorry for your loss. I think a tree is an excellent idea.

Hi R.,
I love your idea of planting a tree.
My work is in tree planting with a non-profit organization
called TREES FOR THE FUTURE. You can find them at www.plant_trees.org
We plant trees for socio-economic and environmental reasons mostly in the tropics and you may purchase tree planting certificates in your mother's name. Of course I love my job and what it does for people and the environment and the certificates are great but I think, personally, along with this idea, I would plant the LIVING MEMORIAL like you have in mind.
You can go out into County land and a County Naturalist can
authorize your planting...
May it renew your relationship in very profound ways...

What a great idea to honor a loved one!
Last year I got free trees from the National Arbor Day foundation - www.nationalarborday.com
They give you 10 free trees for joining their foundation for $10, newsletter, tree guide, etc. There are instructions included with your shipment for how to correctly plant - we planted a small cherry tree in our side yard through them and it looks like it may bud this year. Just enter your zip and choose the tree you or your mother would have liked from those that grow best for your zipcode.
Hope this helps,
J.

Greetings R.,

I own a one woman Painting, Powerwashng and Landscaping business. I also have an 83 year old Mother(Dec. 25th!). I would be honored to help you plant a tree in honor of your mother. I am an usher at my church and usally usher both the 7;45am and 10:00am services. I am involved with the International Missions at my church also. I just got back from my first Missions trip to Sao Paulo Brazil. Helping others is what my passion is. Let me know when you want to plant the tree.

Always on a Mission,

I would start by contacting your local Parks & Rec. dept or see if your area has any public parks. We planted a tree for a friend who lost a baby to SIDS in a public park around a lake called Reflection Lake. The park staff will know which is the right kind of tree to plant for your climate.
