OK - I am finally giving in to giving up our old school tube tv and upgrading to plasma or LED (not LCD). Most salespeople (any store) seem to like the plasma better but we always heard they don't last and have the burn in the screen. I definitely like the price of the plasmas (much cheaper) but I don't want to have to replace it in 4 years. The brands we are looking at are Sony, Samsung and Panasonic (no Vizio). We are wanting a 50". I am looking for advice from anyone that has experience with either or both. Thank you so much for your help!
I LOVE my LED LCD TV, we just bought a new 47 inch LG LED TV and it is so pretty. It actually upgrades the picture.
Plasma are heavy, their average live expectancy is about 5 yrs, they are more susceptible to interference. They also use much more power than the LED.
Double check the energy usage, the plasma sucks watts...... They became cheaper after people stopped buying them because they cost too much to own.
We have both.. plasma pioneer elite.. got it before lcd~ on any flat screen tv.. make sure u have good sound quality.. my parents are not happy with sony lcd can't hear tv! Yes our plasma has better pic.. sound awesome but we paid a lot for it.. really like pioneer elite~we have vizo for our rec room and bedroom~honestly the sound quality is better than sony in my opinion.. but I like our pioneer elite plasma the best had it 5 years no problems. Pioneer in the past has recived high ratings in consumer report.
we love our sony bravia lcd....it's on quite a bit with our home being a revolving door & no problems after 5 years.
if your hubby plays video games go with the LED or LCD. You will get the burned image if you have a newer dvd player and you see the image bounce around when its in the pause mode or stand still mode that is the reason bc of the burning the image into the screen. we have a 42' sony LCD and just love it. we are going to get another but bigger at christmas.
I understand (from my research and some helpful sales people that actually seemed to know some answers to my questions) that plasma TVs actually DO have a better picture. However, it is probably not going to be noticeably different once you get it home on the wall. The biggest difference has to do with tracking fast movement (like a football pass) and shades of black (yes, there are "shades" of black, lol). And, at that time (maybe not these days, but..) Plasma TVs used more energy. I'm sure that LED's use even less, but LCD is what we bought. I can only imagine what a plasma burns in kilowatts... might want to try to make that comparison too. Once you give up the old school TV, you might find you have it on a lot more! :)
we just purchased a LED 3D tv and the picture is out of this world. We love it and it is newest out in technoligy so won't have to replace any time soon and have done a lot of research, found conns was the cheapest
We have all. We have 2 46" Plasma by Dell. Neither are used daily or a LOT in case daughter and firends are on them during sleepovers, etc. Both were very expensive when we bought them over 5 yrs ago. The first one was around $3000. OF COURSE they are lower in price now.
We've had NO issue with the Dell Plasma tv's and NO complaints. Yes, they do get hot but we do not use them on a daily basis so our use cannot compare to someone using it on a daily basis.
Family area downstairs had 2 twin TV's (large family area) both are Sony Bravia and LOVE them. Each about 46" each, same room, fireplace separates them. Great set up for parties, etc. We use one for the DVR non stop, other for regular watching and on game days we have both blaring... FUN.
We had a plasma. It broke after 3 years!
My husband is a huge tech guy and after much research and many years of waiting (a new TV was low on my list of spending priorities!) he decided that plasma was the way to go. He had wanted an LED 3D but after reading reviews, decided that the technology is not good enough yet to justify the price. A lot of LED TVs have issues with jutter (a stutter in the picture, especially for sports) and edge lighting.
We just bought a 50" panasonic plasma and it is beautiful! The days of burnouts are gone for plasmas. At the video store he bought it from (if you only shop the big name stores they will push LED 3D because they don't have the plasmas in store much anymore due to their bad rap from years ago), the techie salesman said that every employee at the store has a plasma rather than LCD or LED because the quality is better.
It does use more power than LED, but is not at all heavy and is so, so pretty! :) Definitely go plasma - my husband did hours of research and this is his dream tv.
