Hello ladies I am in need of your advice my 4 yr daughter hair is falling out and I don't know what to do to get it to grow again. her hair was long and thick just 4 months ago I don't know what happen to make it fall out. I used to braid her hair every week but I have stopped doing that and starting putting ponytails in it. what can I use on her hair to help it grow? I was gone to take her to the salon to get it box braided that's $80 (do you think that will help it grow)her grandmother wants to take her to the the salon she go`s to to get her hair curled that's $45 and that will only last for 2-3 days. I was looking for someone to braid her hair every week and put the beads in her hair but the one person I found wants to charge me $45( a little too much for me)what can I use to get her hair back thick and long again her is very soft is there anyway I can get her hair curly like will smith kids hair look? should I perm it? please help I have no idea what to do with her hair

So What Happened?

thanks fr the comments but in all do respect my child hair is not falling out in my hands or everyday when I do it. its just that it seemed a little shorter than normal but I took her to the salon today and her hair is fine and longer than what I thought. I wanted some suggestions on what else I could do to her hair than braiding it all the time or ponytails but I guess to some people it must be a medical reason.(her hair is okay no my baby is not dying or anything like that lighten up people it was just a question I pay attention to what going on if I thought for a min that there could be someting really wrong with her I would have taken her to the doctor.

Try Melaleuca's Koala Pals shampoo. It is about $5 a bottle. It contains tea tree oil. Go to www.Melaleuca.com for more iformation. If you want to be a customer you need to be invited by another customer as they do not advertise. If you have anymore questions you can contact me at ____@____.com everything works out!

Dear Mom,

perhaps you are PULLING her hair too Tight into these pony tails.

Don't use products with Alcohol as this dries the hair and makes it brittle.

When you brush her hair try and use a horse hair brush with soft bristles, OR a wide tooth comb.

I would NOT Do box braids as this will cause her hair to break even further.

Here is a link.
Its very helpful.

And As previously stated, If her hair is falling out in PATCHES then there is definately something else going on.

When you have her hair braided is it done wet? Wet hair can break so much easier then dry hair and is very fragile. I am sure it is much easier to braid when wet so maybe have them put a leave in hair conditioner to help strengthen her hair and prevent breakage. If you can I would try loose pony tails and loose braids and the leave in conditioner. Good luck!!

Perhaps taking a break from the braiding and pony tails would be a good thing for her hair. That or switching on and off. Maybe putting it back in a headband. Children's hair is usually easily damaged. The more that it is handled (rubber bands, twisting, hair dryers, chemical processes, curling/flat irons, etc) the more likely it is to break off and appear shorter. Also,I've known moms that have had their children's hair in small tight braids that pull on the roots damaging them and making the hair appear thinner. They said that they had to take "breaks" from it from time to time. Maybe some deep conditioners could also help. Good luck!!

You say her hair was thicker 4 months ago. It was cooler weather then, think of it as her winter coat that is now thinning for the summer.
As for wanting her hair curly like Will Smith's kids, it may just not be in her genes to have curly hair like that. Don't waste the money on having a small child's hair permed. A child's hair is so baby fine that the curl won't last. Good luck finding something that works for you both. Wish I could have been of more help.

I read your post and your "So what happened" post also,
LOL, I have to say that when I read your initial post I thought something medical could be going on also.
Your initial post wasn't that clear as to why you thought her hair was falling out.
Glad to read that all is well with her and that you found a solution for her hair style too. :)

I'd absolutely recommend you go to the doctor. There could be a number of serious medical reasons that her hair is falling out, ranging from vitamin deficiencies to assorted disorders and diseases... Please call your pediatrician and make an appointment!

With all do respect...take this child to a doctor! AS previously posted, there must be a reason that her hair is falling out. A hair salon is the last thing you should be thinking about!

I would also recommend you take your daughter to see her pediatrician rather than worry about getting her to a hair salon. There may be an underlying medical problem that is causing her hair to fall out that is totally unrelated to you putting her hair in braids. Before you spend oodles of money on perms, curls, braids, beads and the like, I would definitely take her to the doctor.
