PLEASE HELP! Puppies Tearing off Leaves/branches Bringing Them In!

Hi, I have two poodle puppies, Lucy- 11 months, and Linus-5months, who keep tearing off leaves and even pieces of branchs with some leaves and bringing them inside and chewing on them. The bushes are those red-leaved ones and my rose bush has fallen victim also. Even with the thorns! It was happening inside and I sprayed vinegar on the inside plants which didn't help and I ended up moving them out of reach. Please help- it literally looks like a fall day in my house!!

What can I do next?

It sounds like your dogs are bored and looking for something to do. Our lab gets this way sometimes and eats my rose bushes occasionally, and the best remedy is exercise. If we take her for a walk once around the block, it helps to relieve anxiety and make her tired which makes for a well-behaved pooch. Give it a try to see if it helps. Since it's a short walk, I insist that my dog walks the entire time besides potty stops. I don't let her stop to sniff for fun b'c I need to get her energy out, and I don't have all day to wait on her sniffing stops.

Hi. My lab was doing the same thing, and digging....so I went to the local Ace Hardware and purchased some "all natural" granuels that are made to sprinkle on and around what you don't want the dogs to get to. So far, it's working. I can're remember the name, but you can ask the clerk, he/she should know what you're talking about. Good Luck!

Try a solution in a spray bottle of water and cayenne pepper, or some jalapeno juice. It wont hurt them or the plants and will probably find it annoying enough to stop. Also, give them something else to chew on. Hope it helps!

I have heard like maybe something like perfume. Maybe an inexpensive off brand.

They need to be trained. You cannot expect them to learn this is a bad behavior if you keep allowing them out there unsupervised. Arm yourself with a water squirt bottle and teach them everytime they nibble, they get a squirt with the no sound (eh eh eh) etc...

Conversely, you can place their poop under mulch in flower beds to keep them out of them.

More importanly though, they should be kept indoors unless you can supervise them. If you put them outside all day, look into crate training. It's the safest place for them to be. What if the next plant they nibble on is toxic?

It sounds like you are getting lots of good advice. The only thing I would add is to make sure they have approved chew toys inside and outside. My dogs love Nylabones. I have found them at both Petsmart and Wal-mart.
