Pleurisy

My 15 year old daughter was just diagnosed with Pleurisy. I'm a Respiratory Therapist, so I know the text book diagnosis and treatment of it. Does anyone out there have any suggestions to help her with the pain. It's in her upper back. She is alternating every 3 hours, 3 Motrins and vicodin. We've tried a heating pad.

What can I do next?

I just had this 2 weeks ago and my DH has had it twice before. Just keep on the pain meds, believe me I understand. I am preggo and all I could take was Tylenol!!! I used heat and just tried not to lay on that side or move around too much. Sorry I can't help much, it took 3 or so days to be able to rest comfortably.

hi J. i am sorry to hear about your daughter. I have an internet business and one of MANY availabilities is a health and nutrition line that has an awesome product that has been known to give results in many areas including respiratory matters. The name of the product is OPC-3. I would encourage you to go to my web address and research that product.

I looked it up, because I had never heard of it, and it sounds terrible. So sorry that she is going through that! If the pain is from inflammation, and not excess fluid in the membranes, the Motrin should help somewhat...but maybe an ice pack would be better than a heating pad?? Here is a link to a site that has a list of ways to reduce inflammation : http://www.thedietchannel.com/Natural-Health-Tips-to-Redu...
Sounds like from I read there is not much you can do besides treat the underlying cause and manage the pain as much as you can, which you are already doing

HI J.! I am so sorry your daughter is going through this! I have no idea what to do but was wondering if taking baths would help the pain. I just got over a horrible infection and the only thing that relieved my pain was a hot bath. I took at least 5 baths a day!
I hope she feels better soon!
